The LTD Black Metal Series is comparable in build quality to our LTD Deluxe "1000 Series" instruments, but with a dark and menacing design theme of all-black finish, components, and hardware, a single premium-quality pickup, Macassar ebony fingerboards with no inlays and glow-in-the-dark side markers, and even a newly-designed black metal LTD logo on the headstock.

The M-4 Black Metal marks the return of the M design to our bass offerings, with its bolt-on construction, slab body, speedy maple neck, and and pointed inline headstock. This 34" scale bass features a single direct-mount EMG 35CS pickup with special black logo, a pickup that combines ceramic magnets and steel poles for warmth and punch with a smooth top end and plenty of output. The M-4 Black Metal also features Grover tuners, a Gotoh 201B-4 bridge, and stainless steel frets.

If you play punk or metal, it's hard to beat this bass. Super solid stainless steel frets, one big EMG pickup in the spot you want it, and no extraneous controls to get in the way. The nut material was easy to work with and got this thing easily set up with nice low action. The bridge is nice and the tuners are definitely above average. The ebony fretboard is the best and it looks cool with no inlays on a totally murdered-out guitar. The tone is thick, not muddy, while still being nimble and handled tuning down like a champ. I personally think the sound could use a little more edge to it, maybe the 35DC might be a better choice for heavy music as far as a pickup goes, but the 35CS delivers quite nicely despite this. The guitar is light and compact and the neck is easier to play than say a Fender guitar might be. All in all it's got everything you'd might want out of a nicer instrument with nothing extra.
