Overview
With the LTD AP-4 Black Metal we started with a traditionally-styled body, but then took things in a new, high-performance direction that only ESP can offer. The AP-4 has the great playing feel and the professional components that make it a winner by any definition. It begins with a classic bolt-on design, with an alder body and smooth, thin U-shaped maple neck at 34" scale. The AP-4 offers a single active EMG 35CS pickup and volume control. It offers an ebony fingerboard with 21 extra-jumbo frets, reliable Grover tuners, and a Babicz FCH-4 bridge for terrific tone and sustain power.

This is the perfect bass for me. I'm a J-Bass guy from way back but have always preferred a single EMG and the best bridge I could get. Anything more than a volume knob is too much for my taste - so much so that I used a couple of Performance basses from parts for years just because I could set it up the way I wanted. I think EMG read my mind on this. The ONLY thing I don't totally love is the reverse headstock because I just messes with me when tuning, but that's a minor issue. Everything else is perfect.
