I own a PDP concept maple which is a phenomenal kit, as well as a Mapex armory studio ease which I also like. I bought this for no other reason then it was inexpensive, made by a company I trust and it looked really nice. And who doesn't need another drum kit right? So I'm quite blown away. Even with the single ply factory heads, this thing sounds incredible. I don't know how many plies of maple are actually in this compared to the poplar but they got the balance right. The sound is warm, round, and has plenty of cut and projection which really surprised me at this price point. It absolutely doesn't sound like your typical cheap poplar kit per se. In fact there's absolutely nothing "budget" about the sound at all. Honestly I have to say it's my new favorite kit and would have no problems at all taking this to a show. For a small amount of money a beginner could own this kit and not outgrow it any time soon. I'm a 20-year drummer and it's good enough for me.
