Cordoba Cuatro

No longer available at zZounds
Hear the distinct sound of the South American-inspired Cuatro. This Cordoba sings with a mahogany body and spruce top.

Inspired by South American string instruments, the Cuatro looks like it would naturally belong in the ukulele family. Despite the fact that it has four strings like a uke, this Venezuelan instrument has a distinct sound of its own, tending to serve as the rhythmic and harmonic base. For this reason, the Cuatro has a mahogany tap plate built seamlessly onto the spruce top.

The Cuatro is popular for its simplistic design and compact size (521mm or 20.5 inch scale length), and is a versatile instrument fit for all styles and varieties of music. The Cuatro has a solid European spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany tap plate. Tuned to standard D, B, G, E.

"Is like a baritone uke more than a venezuelan cuatro. But for a uke, it is a nice product."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Yes I would search more for the true venezuelan cuatro, which is about the same size, but it has a deeper body.
Sound
I was expecting it to have the same depth of sound as a Venezuelan cuatro, but it is not the same. It looks and sounds like a baritone uke to me, so I was a little disappointed. I could not get it to tune the same way, so I had to order different strings for it, so will see if that makes a difference.
Features
It is a cute instrument, but again not what I expected. When the item stated cuatro, I should have looked at it more closely, especially with the measurements to see that it is not a true venezuelan cuatro, but like a baritone uke.
Ease of Use
It is easy to use and sounds great - again for a uke. I am a beginner, but I think there is an easy learning curve for this instrument. It is easy to handle and it seems to play nicely.
Quality
Yes seems to be well made and comes with a very nice case.
Value
I think it is a little spendy for what I have seen in other ukes......for my level I guess........ But the quality is good.....probably. I was willing to spend more because I thought it was a venezuelan cuatro.
