The BX5a studio monitors from M-Audio feature waveguide-loaded high-frequency drivers with natural silk domes to deliver pristine top end that's gentle on the ears.

When some companies design a "low-cost" reference monitor, they take the design of their flagship model and subtract features until its price is more "reasonable." Not M-Audio. Their BX5a monitors are designed specifically for the home recording enthusiast, sporting features that you really need to get the most out of your mixes. They're a serious solution for those serious about their craft.

Full-Spectrum Sound

One thing that project studio owners have in common with professional engineers: they both want minimal setup hassle. These mointors are internally amplified, so you won't have to worry about finding a matching power amp to ensure clean audio reproduction. The monitors sport a pair of finely tuned drivers--a 5" woofer and a 1" tweeter--that cover a wide frequency spectrum, with an internal crossover to maximize each driver's efficiency. Think of properly bi-amped reference monitors as audio glasses that let you see further into your sonic periphery. Prescribe yourself a pair and see more of your mix than ever before.

Smooth Top End

Tired of being tired of listening? While you want your monitors to be revealing, you don't want to expose your ears to damage. The smooth top-end of the BX5a's is due to a specially designed, silk-domed tweeter presents high frequencies accurately, and not harshly. This means longer listening sessions and higher productivity, but it also means an investment into your future as a "professional listener."

Magnetic Shielding

read more M-Audio knows that most home recording practitioners work in less than perfect setups. It's not crazy to assume your speakers are going to end up situated right next to your desktop computer monitor. Not to worry. The BX5a is internally magnetically shielded to protect computer monitors, and to keep your recorded audio free of disturbance.

You deserve reference monitors that were designed just for you. The M-Audio BX5as complete your home studio with all the features you'll need, and none of what you don't.

M-Audio BX5a Deluxe Active Monitors

The Studiophile BX5a Deluxe monitors update the best-selling M-Audio systems with a variety of enhancements. New waveguides deliver excellent imaging. Custom amplifier tuning enhances the integration between the high and low frequencies, delivering refined spectral balance and a smoother response. A new low-frequency transducer adds extra definition to the bass response.

The Studiophile Deluxe monitors feature 5 in. Kevlar low-frequency driver cones, respectively. Kevlar's high mechanical and thermal resilience makes it ideal for speaker cones. These low-frequency drivers also employ a curved cone design, high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds that provide percussive musical bass. The Deluxe monitors also feature new waveguide-loaded high-frequency drivers with natural silk domes to deliver pristine top end that is gentle on the ears.

- Two-way studio reference monitors
- 70 watts of distributed power (30w HF amp, 40w LF amp)
- 5 in. low-frequency drivers with:
- Curved Kevlar cones
- High-temperature voice coils
- Damped rubber surround
- 1 in. natural silk high-frequency drivers
- Magnetically shielded
- XLR balanced and 1/4 in. balanced/unbalanced inputs
- Power indicator
- Volume control

Kevlar drivers
M-Audio's new monitor employs Kevlar for low-frequency driver construction. The same material used in bulletproof vests, Kevlar's high resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones-although it is typically reserved for monitors with higher price tags. Needless to say, Kevlar represents a significant improvement over the polypropylene and paper used in most monitors for this price.

Magnetically shielded for desktop use
Unchecked, the electromagnetic waves emanating from your speakers can wreak havoc with your computer's video monitor or a nearby TV. The BX5a is magnetically shielded so that all of your electronic equipment can coexist on your desktop without interference.

Bi-amplified efficiency
Active monitors have a distinct advantage over unpowered monitors, in that the built-in power amps are designed specifically to work with the drivers and crossovers in a tuned system. Bi-amplification further refines the concept by dedicating separate power amps to the highs and lows. Combined with a finely tuned crossover, this design insures that both the high- and low-frequency drivers are asked to deliver only the frequencies they are more efficient at reproducing.

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
What I like most about this product is its clarity and responsiveness to sound pumped through them. As well as how clear it is despite is volume. It also reveals mistakes in production as if you were using Pro Tools HD. Really grateful for the secrets these monitors reveal, great buy.

Sound
The sound of this product is phenomenal for home studio's. The quality of both high and low frequencies is terrific. I can clearly hear all instruments and effects in my mixes, whether I'm panning or correcting automation. It has helped me achieve the mixes I was looking for by purchasing this product. I'm in love with the Bx5's. And I'm usually have strong reservations about buying such products, but the price is reasonable and they are really good monitors. I had computer speakers before purchasing these.

Features
There isn't any accessories with this product. You get what you pay for and thats the two monitors, and I was fine with that. You will need speaker cables, RCA's, of which I received a discount by a local music store I'm close with.

Ease of Use
Very easy to hook up to a computer or interface and is interchangeable. I've used my monitors on an M-Audio and Lexicon interface.

Quality
I only give it a 9 because I've seen and heard better monitors. However these monitors are built to last. Their durable and have the thump and clear sound your looking for. read more

Value
The price is good via Zzounds, but I did find Bx8's for sale $100 cheaper after I had bought my Bx5's. However its a great value for what your purchasing and they even allow a payment plan.

Manufacturer Support
I have dealt with M-Audio before with another product but not this one specifically so I cant say I have dealt with them about my monitors. Never had a problem and I don't expect to.

The Wow Factor
My lady loved the speakers as much as I did, if that answers the question.lol
