64-bit Quad Xeon
Inside every Mac Pro resides two new Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors. Running at up to 3GHz, they bring industry-leading, 64-bit, quad-core performance to every Mac Pro.
Core micro-architecture, the 64-bit Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor combines both high performance and power efficiency. Designed for systems with multiple processors — like Mac Pro — it runs at clock speeds of 2GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3GHz. And it delivers the fastest Mac ever, one that runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad.

Design driven
With its all-quad Intel Xeon-processor lineup, Mac Pro ushers read more in a new era of workstation performance. And, thanks to a design tour de force, Mac Pro also raises the bar on desktop usability. Its redesigned enclosure offers improved functionality and greater accessibility. It provides four hard-drive bays and a new cable-free installation process — with no cables or connectors to trouble you. A new tool-less PCi bracket simplifies the installation and removal of expansion cards. The new, double-wide graphics slot means you don’t have to sacrifice a valuable expansion slot. Eight FB-DIMM slots on two riser cards offer quick, easy memory installation. And you’ll find more ports up front for added convenience — including a FireWire 800 and another USB 2.0 port.

Garage Band
GarageBand is a digital audio workstation (DAW) which can record and play back multiple tracks of audio. A built-in audio filter allows the audio tracks to be enhanced for recording guitar instruments, etc.

Loop-base music generation
GarageBand belongs to the genre of loop-based music sequencing software. The software comes with 1,000 pre-recorded sampled and sequenced loops. Additional loops are available in the five GarageBand Jam Packs, separate products offered by Apple Computer.

Virtual software instruments
GarageBand can play virtual software instruments using a MIDI keyboard connected to the computer, or using an on-screen virtual keyboard. Additional instruments are available in the five GarageBand Jam Packs, separate products offered by Apple Computer.

Midi editing
GarageBand can import MIDI files and offers piano roll or notation-style editing and playback. (GarageBand cannot export MIDI files.)

Massive Internal Storage
Answering your #1 request, Mac Pro offers four drive bays, providing up to 2TB of internal storage. Speedy 3Gb/s Serial ATA drives install in sleek, aluminum carriers that slide simply into place. And the redesigned latch locks them securely into the enclosure.

A Double Dose of Optical Drives
Every Mac Pro comes with a single 16x SuperDrive, but a second bay lets you outfit your Mac Pro with a pair of SuperDrives. Talk about productivity gains, with two 16X SuperDrives, you can simultaneously read from one drive and write to the other. Read from both drives. Or even write to both.

Workstation Graphics, No Sacrifices
Offering ample room for future growth, the redesigned Mac Pro enclosure features a double-wide PCI Express graphics slot. Install any of the available graphics cards, and you can still use any and all of the three remaining PCI Express expansion slots. In all, Mac Pro lets you install up to four PCI Express graphics cards. Providing support for up to eight displays simultaneously, Mac Pro offers an ideal solution for advanced visualization projects and large display walls. You don’t need a clear day to see forever. You just need a new Mac Pro.

Expansive Memory
With Mac Pro, you’ll not only enjoy highly reliable and extremely fast 667MHz fully-buffered ECC memory, but you’ll find it incredibly easy to add memory to your system.
That’s because every Mac Pro comes with two memory riser cards, each with four fully-buffered DIMM slots. With a total of eight DIMM slots available, you can install up to 16GB of memory. To help dissipate heat, every Apple DIMM you purchase for your Mac Pro comes with its own preinstalled heat sink. This unique heat sink lets fans run slower — and quieter — yet keeps the memory cool enough to run at full speed.

Music and Audio
Innovative tools for the Mac platform — such as Logic Pro, Logic Express, Soundtrack Pro, Digidesign Pro Tools, MOTU Digital Performer, and Steinberg Cubase SX and Nuendo — provide composers and sound designers with a wealth of software for capturing every inspiration. With Mac Pro, there’s even more power available to compose, record, edit, mix, and perform.
Mac OS X integrates a range of audio technologies into a modern platform, delivering stunning audio quality from 24kHz to 192kHz, outstanding performance, and ease of use for musicians, composers, sound designers, and audio editors. The Audio Units plug-in architecture allows plug-ins to be used across Mac OS X audio applications. Apple supplies several Audio Units in Mac OS X, including one that adjusts timing without affecting pitch and a matched pair that streams audio over a network.
Also integrated are MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) Services for increased stability and performance, as well as Audio MIDI Setup for managing MIDI needs and defining a systemwide MIDI configuration that’s available to all applications.

AppleCare
Purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan to extend your service and support to up to three full years from the purchase date of your Mac Pro. The plan provides support for the Mac Pro, the Mac OS, and many Apple consumer applications, along with one display when you purchase it with the Mac Pro.
