"Excellent Little Camera!"

I've had the Zoom Q4 for a few weeks now and love it. It's small and light, but has super clear video and audio...perfect for recording live performances. It has many settings for both audio and video. You can use "go pro" accessories with it. I recommend getting a handle, because the camera is real small. It can be used as a webcam via USB. It's a great addition to any recording setup.

"Hook, "line-in", and sinker!"

Good video specs/options, good audio specs, but the kicker for me was line-in capability. This lets me use studio quality mics to record "media ready" videos without having to use interface devices. Result: no latency issues while recording. Just play back your background music while you comp your solos or whatever. Record both HD video and CD quality audio on your Zoom, and upload! No digital Zoom available (two settings only), which is kind of ironic considering the manufacturer. Also, a lens cover would be nice. These are the only drawbacks worth mentioning. Overall rating would be "Coolness"...

Musical Background:

Playing guitars since '66. Picked up a little bass and keyboard along the way for demos, etc.

Musical Style:

Prefer happy, foot tapping, monkey nerve ticklers with maybe a slightly jazzy sensibility.

"True Musicians Camera"

First let me say. If you are NOT a musician or singer than don't buy this camera. This camera is BIG on audio and just so happens to shoot HD video. So don't think you're gonna be shooting movies with it lol. However, if you're a musician and you want good clean audio along with the added bonus of clear vids, buy this camera. Perfect for recording vlogs, gigs, rehearsals, studio sessions, Webcam, the whole nine.

Easy to use, Instruction manual very good .built in mics good, I needed something better, ordered h4n.video quality good. I recommend this recorder.
Sound
Mics good, but for what I'm doing which is playing drums along with recorded music, the two were not blending the I had hoped, and so I am opting for the h4n,this way I am able to move the mic anywhere I need to.

Musical Background:

playing off,and on since 1966.played pro. for many yrs.trying to do some videos at this point.

Musical Style:

I've only recorded a few acoustic videos with this guy so far, but the results are pretty good. The camera is fairly straight forward to use, but I had trouble finding software on my PC that would even play the raw files. Contacted Zoom customer support, and they had no recommendations & told me to do some research. Thus no stars for them!

Musical Background:

Working musician

"Sound good video and build quality subpar at best."

The unit has great sound and auto leveling. If you are using it in very bright natural lighting the picture is good but it still seems choppy at best. The camera itself is very cheap feeling and doesn't look like it will hold up at all. Over all if you are only interested in audio recording and video takes a back seat then you will like it but if you're looking to have a good picture in average lighting then you will not be happy with this camera.
