I would only buy an updated model of zoom 505-II
Sound
I am happy with this Zoom 505 II . once I read the manual and learned to program the pedal I invented so many sounds that emulate many other Guitar effects pedals that I decided to keep this one in my kit as one of my main effects processors. Charles,,, Gilbert az.

"For Distortion Sounds It Gets The Highest Score In The Classroom."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Get it for the A+ distortion tones and nothing else, and keep it at home with you to record with, and you're good to go.
Sound
The distortion in all Zoom pedals made to date is the strength of the units. The rest of the effects are pedestrian and limited. Many individuals would whine about the chorus and delay being weak and uncontrollable. I personally couldn't care less about modulation effects. I use the pedal for its distortion quality, and in that respect it's one of the best sounds available in commercially available guitar pedals, digital or analog. All I use is wah-wah, compression, and distortion for guitar effects, so this pedal is perfect for me, along with my Morley Wah and Joe Meek compressor, with the Zoom unit acting strictly as a distortion generator. Great Lead Rock and Roll Guitar sound, one of the best ever created by any electronics company.
Features
The distortion has the best features and its best feature is the sound of the distortion.
Ease of Use
Very simple to get fantastic distortion tones.
Quality
It's plastic. How long it holds up is up to you personally. Abuse a plastic cup, or a plastic lunchbox, and it will break far quicker than a metal object in the same catagory of items. This is no different with guitar pedals made out of plastic. My personal Zoom 505 II stays at home with me. I would never use it to play a live show. I've got a Zoom G2 to play live shows with, because it's made of metal.
Value
The distortion on this pedal surpasses just about any commercially made distortion unit available. For that alone it's a great value and worth the price.
The Wow Factor
It's an ugly silver-ish color...very Chinese, colored like a Sony or Magnavox boom box, or a Sanyo TV. I personally don't pay attention to its looks, though. How it sounds is what's important. I want a pedal's sounds, not the pedal framed as picture art on my wall.

I don't see myself throwing this aside any time soon. When I get better amps for lead guitar and a better guitar, I could still use this baby.
Sound
There's a lot of things you can do with this unit. You can achieve a lot of awesome tones. The acoustic and fender settings are my favorite, because they're meant to sound clean. The distortions aren't as smooth or as warm as you'd want them to be, but they're better than a small non-tube amp like mine. The reverb effects add a great touch to picking and rythym guitar. As far as sound quality, it just depends on what settings you put into effect. The multitude of features aren't high quality features, but I can easily assume that it's better to use this unit than to use multiple pedals that end up to be pretty darn expensive. I suggest making or finding a stereo output cord to use with this unit. The output is stereo, so by using two amps you get a very very beautiful, fuller sound than you do with one amp alone. The reverb effects are different as well.
Features
BUILT IN TUNER, which can be fine tuned +/- 50Hz!! Once you know how and when to use all of the features, they are all awesome and really useful. All four types of reverbs have their charms. The EQ and phase settings can give you some great tones, with phase you can get some nice backround or ambience style playing. All of the mod effects are great other than the RING MOD. The only thing it's good for is making your voice sound like a robot through the computer haha. The product is very sturdy as well, It's just as good as it was when i bought it 9 months ago
Quality
This product is durable considering it's only made of plastic. The shell has held up well, and the pedals/buttons hold up just fine.
Value
This is definitely worth the dough. It's sooooooo much better than just going through a basic amp, you cannot get bored with the variety of things you can do with this pedal.
The Wow Factor
What's better than a small, compact, Wonder-Pedal? 5 or 6 pedals? well that could be argued...

"THIS IS THE BEST OF THE BEST"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I think I will be using this product for years to come as it is one of the best parts to my set up so far.
Sound
This pedal has great sound in almost all of the many great effects that it has. The only bad thing about the whole effects pedal in my eyes is that a couple of the sounds have a bit too much distortion for my liking. Some of the sounds are absolutely great and make lead guitaring a sound a whole lot better and just makes it more fun. The product does help to get the sounds that you would want. Since it has so many sounds on it, it is quite hard to find something that has a different effect than on the product. It is true that some sounds are better than others, but that is only my opinion and I like to say that for all of the sounds, because I like to use different sounds for different music that I play on my guitar. In a recording studio I think that this product with the right equipment to go with it would sound very good. For instance you couldn't use a bad amplifier with the pedal in a recording studio and would have to use a good amplifier like a marshall stage amplifier. Then it would sound great in recording. Finally I would like to say that unlike me who is english, if you have 1 cent, you can use it to play the lead guitar with this pedal and it sounds great. So try it.
Features
This area wasn't as good. The pedal came with only an adapter and no extra lead which I then had to go out and buy before use of the product. BUT it does have some great features looking at them in the great and imaginative sounds that it has. For instance there is a robot sound on it that sounds quite funny i guess and also a great echoing sound. There aren't actuallya any features that aren't useful in ANY way. I also can't think of any features that it doesn't have which is a good thing.
Value
I think that the product is definetely worth the price because of all the settings and sounds on the product. It is also quite strong as well so again is worth the money.

I like this very much and you will not be disappointed in this.
Sound
This is an awesome little effects box. The sounds are very good....maybe a little too digital, but hey its still very good for the price and it has many various options.
Features
I like being able to use it with a pair of headphones right out of the box. It is user friendly and has many options.
Quality
It has an ok look to it and the plastic does seam a little cheap, but it seams to be made ok. Haven't used it for a long time so haven't had the chance to put it though all it paces.
Value
This is a very good value and works great for in a practice setup.

"I like it, YOU should too!!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
It is good especially if your on a budget. Young guitarists GET THIS!!! I think this will serve my purpose for now, but it is kinda annoying to cycle through so many efects to the one you want. but if you don't change effects during a song then it doesn't matter. but If you change in the middle of a song then you have to totally reprogram an effect or two so the ones you want will be adjacent to each other.
Sound
I really like the sound as long as you can work out the buzz caused by cables it sounds really good.
Features
this thing has all the features that you need I don't know what other feature could have possibly been added it loaded. If you bue go ahead and get a power source for it. This pedal has a battery port but they get sucked dry before ya know it. You will definitley save in the long run by going ahead and spending a few more dollars.
Quality
It is made out of a very tuff plastic that has lasted real well for me. everything is in good order no loose parts, the face looks good, there are no blemishes that were not caused by my foot. I don't worry about it I think it can handle some beatings. I ruined the battery port on mine cuz I left some batterys in it and they of course leaked afer a while, so I bought a power source and it works as well as it did the day I brought it home. I have had this pedal for two years and right now I don't think I'll get another one.
Value
this is the only one I have had but I like it use it like crazy.
Manufacturer Support
I actually don't know about the support. because all the questions I have had were answered in the manuel.
The Wow Factor
It is as sleek as they say it is, it looks good, and the pedals are a good size for my size twelve foot. It is the only pedal I use (and have) right now and I think it does its job.

Features
The features are okay but I wish it came with the expression pedal but the other one has it. Other than that, with all of these affects, how can you go wrong?
Quality
My pedal has been thru hell and it is yet to fail me. Straight out of the box it was perfect. No marks, scratches or blemishes.

Indefinitely. I have other pedals and tube amps for playing with the band.

Has nice variety of effects. I wouldn't use it for gigging, but it is great for practice while traveling.

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
For the money, it's a great value. It is an effects pedal/tuner that does lots of neat stuff. It takes up no more space on my pedal board than my Rat distortion unit plus it cost me less to purchase. I rate it a 10.
Sound
All the effects are very good. Tremelo is very realistic. Reverbs and chorus excellent. Distortions . . . really they all sound good. Sometimes it breaks up a little, but I may be overdriving it.
Features
I really don't get into all the features of the electronic gear I buy. Life is too short. In general, this is a stomp box with a digital processor in it. . .it's very nice.
Quality
This is a fantastic plastic stomp box that will cost you less than 100 bucks . . . if you weigh less than 300 pounds and you aren't on tour, this little box should last you for years.
Value
For the money . . . it's a 10!
Manufacturer Support
I asked Zoom a question via email. They responded very promptly and courteously . . . they really didn't read my question so I got an off the wall answer, but the prompt, courteous part counts for a lot, I think!
The Wow Factor
I bought this pedal because I needed a tuner . . . it just happened to have a tuner PLUS a load of sweet digital effects. It may be the best 100.00 bucks I ever spent on musical gear.

Sound
Great sound for the money. Very usable distortions/amps especially if you use a little verb or chorus to smooth out the sound. Amazing when you consider the price.
Features
Ok, it's a clunky to program and you're stuck with fixed setting points when adjusting the effects, BUT for the money it's killer.
Quality
Runs well, has been dropped many times with no ill effects. Sooner or later the plastic will crack, but at this price it's disposable!

"everthing but distortion will get the job done."

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I was satisfiedfor a good while with this, but when i started to record music the distortion just sounded horrable. I couldnt get a good sound out of it. I might get asomething else soon, but i want to save up for some live sound reinforcement stuff now...and a sm57... or 81. I dont use this now because i get a better sound from my amps effects that are built in.
Sound
Everything except the distortion sounds ok. Some effects sound ugly though. I used to play in a punk type band, and was just learning when i go this, but now pla in a "blues rock" type band, and this thing in usless. I use it for vocal effects now just so our singer has some reverb in his voice. Distortion sounds derable though, sounds to digitalized for me. This this got old fast.
Quality
it hasnt done anything bad for me except drain batterys like a madman. but ii just stuck a power supply on it and it worked fine afterwards.
Value
anything besides distortion its an ok deal for. Maybe i just dont like that sound it gives an you do, but I'll never use it for distortion ever. The clean sounds is good though, so i might use it to DI into my mixer for clean parts of a guitar track.

"You get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't always better"

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars

I can see why some people like it becasue they don't want to invest in good equipment.
Sound
The sound quality is OK, but not good enough to play live with. I experienced alot of noise with it. I didn't like not having a master volume to adjust on the fly for headphones. Distortion is needly and harsh. I was trying to get the speaker sim to sound good and it was weak. It sounded better on clean sounds, Acoustic and Fender. I ended up using a BOSS BD-2 on a clean patch and tweaked it and got a better tone. A Digitech Distortion factory or a BOSS Metal Zone would be great with this unit. I think the preamp section and the speaker sim is the weakest link.
Features
I would like a tap delay and better preamp and amp sims.

"Good Pedal but becareful of the power connector breaking"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
the power connector problem is the only issue that would guide me to another device.
Sound
Good digital sound translation. The best part of the 505!
Features
I used the default settings for distortion and clean sounds.
Ease of Use
Using the default settings, its real easy to get great sounds. You can get greater flexibility and usability with separate pedals without complicated setups. However... for a young gun learning ... its a good starter!
Quality
Two of these have had power supply connector problems. The circuit board inside has cut-aways on either side of the power connector making it likely that it will break off. This happened twice. I soldered the piece back on and reinforced it with small wood dowels. The rest of the unit is made to take on the road punishment. Just be aware that wiggling the power cable out of the connector socket acts like folding thin metal and eventually, it will break.

Its worth the selling price.

"Very nice pedal. Unbeatable for the price."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I plan to use this pedal until there's only the shadow left of it. Far and away the best pedal for the price. Period.
Sound
If you take the time to read the manual you can get some pretty nice sounds out of this thing. The distortion is bright and crisp, but be careful with the amount or you can easily over do it. Nu Metal players may find the distortion a bit bright for your tastes. I can get any style of sound I want out of my Crate stack with this pedal. From thick and fat distortion like Dimebag or EVH, to this really nice crunchy tonal seventies sound I discovered. Clean sounds are sweet and creamy. There's even an acoustic setting to make your axe sound like an acoustic. This pedal even made my son's little $100 First Act guitar sound like a top-of-the-line Jackson.
Features
Has some nice extra features, like an external volume pedal/wah pedal jack that goes with the internal wah setting. There's a nice compresser/limiter function to really sharpen your sound, but the internal eq is a bit odd.
Ease of Use
It takes a while to get used to, but once you do it's a breeze to use.
Quality
Not the sturdiest thing ever made. Should have been amde of metal. Keep the unit clean otherwise it can start making an ungodly hummmmmmm.
The Wow Factor
If you can't afford an amp modeler, or if you are looking for a cheap way to spice up your current rig, this is the sure way to go.

I think that i will have this product for a long time. if i had to replace it i would probebly get this again or get the more newer one wwith an expresion pedal built in.
Sound
this pedal sounds great. i have an amp that i play with the most and its only 4 watt and it sound great. most of the time when i have made something up or trying to play somebody elses stuf i can find the right sound. the pedal has a big variety of different sound.
Features
the pedal had many distortions to choose from.
Quality
I have had it for about 3-4 months and nothing with the pedals or any thing like that. But the place the guitar plugs into is kind of loose but it still works good.
Value
pritty good price for what you get.
Manufacturer Support
Have not hade to call.
The Wow Factor
it is one the best pedals i have seen it has a good selection and it looks pritty cool. it was a little bit bigger than i though it would be.

I feel that this product will be a staple in my musical supplies for a very long time. This product will be great for beginners, but you'll still be using it even after you have been playing for years.

Great all-around sound quality and awesome noise reduction. provides great rendering of effects while keeping good tone quality.

It has the facilities to use an optional expression pedal, which is a great little extra that can really boost your playing.
The Wow Factor
This product is sleek and well designed, and is just one of the most convenient pieces of equipment you can buy.

Look, this pedal was everything and more I wanted from it. I seriously didn't think this pedal was going to be something I used for over 2 years, but now that I compared other pedals with it, I fell in love with this thing.

Zoom 505 II Effects Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Well this is one element of my guitar rig and i does excellent for what i need it for. If lost id run out and by another fast.
Sound
Ive owned a POD an RP300 and various others so i feel i have a lot to compare this too and ive got to say that for the price this is one great pedal. I can get all the tone i need for live and recording. This weekend i used it with a polytone amp using just my guitar volume to go from clean to smooth solo distortion and it sounded just as good as my zentera amp. Thats quite a feat considering the zentera cost around $3500 and the 505 2 was only 70 bucks! Last night I recorded some jazz tracks on my computer. I was able to get tones just as nice as my POd and Digitech pedals. This thing is as good as you want i to be. Its a permanent fixture in my guitar case. I use it to warm up with headphones. When i do other gigs i dont have to carry anything but my guitar and the 505 2. Ive found that no matter what i play through i can find great tone because it comes from the heart and playing technique. This is one great effect pedal and it will alway be a part of my arsenal.
Features
Its plastic but i treat all my equipment with care. As far a features I thinks its perfect.
Quality
The sound quality is superb.
Value
great value

"Poison comes in small pacages."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I don`t know, but I will probrably never sell it or not use it at all. I will supliment it yes, not replace it within the foreseeable future no.If it got stolen I would go for the Ibanez tone-lok padels, seperate units that are smoother to change from one setting to another.
Sound
I use Ibanez guitars so i`m in the business to make noise, I find the sound quality to be by far the best for padels in it`s price range. Many of the demo sound modes I use without changing any settings, although I did change the acoustic patch almost completely (Ibanez?).I like playing heavy music like System of a down, fear factory type music,Then I start changing the original settings, but it works for me.I also use a Boss "metal zone" padal, although I only started incorporating them last week.I also used it for my vox when I sang without a p.a.
Features
No,none, nada, niks. Most useful feature for me is the range, different sounds eg. heavy distortion to a good acoustic sound (after I changed it that is).I sometimes Use the FX modes nice!O!, the tuner helps.I don`t have any complaints as such but,a whawha padel would be cool.
Quality
When I baught it I thought it looked a little too plastic. I was afraid I would break it. It hasn`t broken yet,the plastic layer on the screen hasn`t even peeled off if I`m not mistaken. We don`t travel a lot so I can`t say.
Value
yes
Manufacturer Support
I have never had any problems Sorry!
The Wow Factor
The shape and design caught my eye imediately. I liked it because it was small and could fit in my guitar bag with ease.
