"Excellent Kit For The Money!"

I have used a Yamaha Recording Custom kit since 1985 and when it came time to get a 2nd kit for smaller stages the Stage Custom Bebop kit was a no-brainer. I'm a big fan of birch shells (and Yamaha) and the price is great for what you get. Yeah, the lugs are of lesser quality than a high end kit but in the end it's the sound that matters and this kit sounds amazing. Many of my clients actually prefer the punchiness this kit has over my Recording Custom kit. I think this is due to the shallower depth shells compared to my 80's power toms. The finish is superb to say the least. I replaced the stock heads which improved the sound for the styles of music I play. I would highly recommend this kit to anyone looking for a great sounding kit without having to spend thousands of dollars.

"Love it!"

I received the cranberry kit last week and was pleasantly surprised to find it's a wood grain kit and not a solid colour! After comparing the Yam with the Gretsch, I have to give it to Yamaha on this. A very controlled and warmer sound than I was expecting. The floor tom has buckets of sustain. The hardware isn't yam's best but still great. The snare is the weak link, as is the case in many affordable bop kits. I think with some tweaking it will be more than acceptable. The kick drum sounds nice and solid. I stuffed it with a few sheets to give it more of a thwack than the jazzy hollow sound. So far very impressed with what you can get for 850 cdn.

Don't know at this time. It's not gonna get lost or stolen!
Sound
I have played drums along time, needed a small set for occasional jazz gigs. I'd had yamaha recommended to me for the quality, so decided to get this set, since I didn't really need another snare, had one with a natural light finish. I was very impressed with fast shipment!(Next Day). Well packed in one big box. Bass drum heads needed to be mounted. Toms were tuned high, no problem retuning lower. The supplied heads are quite decent, will use for the forseeable future. I was able to get a nice, fairly deep sound with quite fast decay on the ring with no muffling of heads. I like drums to ring a little. Gloss finish is superb, all parts were there, comes with a key. I only noticed some machining scratches on tom hoops after I'd had them a few days. For the price, didn't bother me. Other wise excellent finish. Tightening screws move smoothly.
Features
Tom mount is very well designed, was able to dial in position without much fuss. It looks and feels quite solid. Some may be concerned about the fact the bass drum has only six tension casings per head. Less resonance damping, tunes fine, looks clean!
Ease of Use
I think you can get an excellent sound from this kit. Various heads will change sound. I was quite happy with the supplied heads.
Quality
With care, this set will last for decades I predict. I play in a rehearsal studio with an older Studio Custom yamaha set that gets played hard regularly. Holding up fine.
Value
It doesn't come with a snare, other competitive kits cost a little less, but you more than get your moneys worth with this no nonsense set.
Manufacturer Support
Yamaha has been around a while! ZZ sounds was easy to buy from.
The Wow Factor
I bought it, was leaning toward the Tama Silverstar set or a Sonor. Decided to go for classic natural wood finish and the fact I'd rather spend the money on quality in the toms and bass, since I didn't need another snare.
