This unit replaces and upgrades a well-worn (and still 100% functional) MG16/6fx that has served me well, for years. The additional features were a big part of the reason for upgrading. I was able to reduce my rack a little, by eliminating an outboard effects processor. Let's break it down: Pros: * dual effects are well done and eliminate a need for outboard effects * Leveller and ducker functions are great for background music when announcements may be made from somewhere away from the board (I still prefer a finger on the slider, myself, though). * Compression on 8 channels is darned handy, even it it is rudimentary. * XLR outs on the aux sends is a NICE addition. * USB port makes a nice way to add a light, if you aren't using it for an iPod * Switchable phantom power on each channel, individually is GREATNESS. * Yamaha Support is LIGHTNING fast, very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. * this thing is so quiet, that I wonder if I accidentally shut my amplifiers off, in those lulls that sometimes occur between songs. Amazing silence. *all the controls are right where I woudl expect them, after using yamaha mixers for more years than I care to count. Cons: * this thing is too deep for many of the mixer racks made. you need 13 rack spaces to allow for connections. * iPod only via the USB is not helpful to those of us who are anti-Cupertino.

This mixer performs way beyond my expectations. It also fits nicely into the SKB 19P12U Pop-Up Mixer Case, with the help of a few rubber bushings from the plumbing department of your local supplier. If you are thinking about buying it, look no further. You will not be disappointed by its features and performance. Haven't needed to contact Yamaha, but the warranty registration website is easy t manage. Simply, AMAZING product

I love this mixer except for one major flaw. The effects on the mixer are NOT Footswitchable. That means if you have to turn off the Reverb when you are talking, you have to walk over to the mixer and turn it off from there. Ditto for the other effects unit when wanting to turn it on/off, depending on the song. All the room on the mixer is accounted for, so adding the Footswitches function yourself is a non starter. Mind boggling that they would not have this basic functionality on the board. Contacted Yamaha Canada and they passed on the info to Japan so they can incorporate this feature into future designs. Got the word back that they are not interested.
