I have wanted a 12-string for a while, but didn't want to spend a fortune on it. I saw this one on zZounds website and decided that if I didn't like it I could always return it. I received the guitar two days ago, and I will not be returning it. This guitar has the highest volume level of any of my acoustics. Sounds great, love the binding on the body and the neck, beautiful sound. I have played several other higher end 12 strings at the local big box guitar store, and I can't feel or hear a difference from the ones that cost 3 to 4 times more. This is my first Yamaha, and I will now have to take a lot more serious look at their other products. You can't go wrong with buying this guitar.

Yamaha's quality shines through again. I own a few vintage FG's, and their attention to detail, playability and overall craftsmanship has not been lost through the years. The FG820-12 is bright and boomy, with no buzz and perfect intonation out of the box. Beginners may want to tune down and implement a capo or have a luthier lower the action a little. I also appreciate the lack of ability to 'plug in', as this is usually done with an under-saddle piezo pickup which in my opinion ruins sound transfer for the acoustic purists. For serious tone, an upgraded 'Brazilian bloodwood' nut and saddle with improve tenfold. 5 stars on most accounts for this little beauty. A real musical companion - on a fair budget - with the enticement of affordable upgrades to really compete with the big end of town.

I bought my first Yamaha acoustic (FG-700s) the year I graduated high school in '05 as a "campfire" guitar. Solid top, cheap and virtually indestructible. The better I got as a player, the more I gravitated towards the flashy names... we all know the big three lol. I've bought and sold nearly every one, with the exception of my beloved Yamaha's and my Martin 000X1, which eventually had to be repaired (under warranty) due to our terrible fluctuations in PA climate. Not my Yamaha's. They're rock solid and will probably outlast me. I'm no salesman so here's my unbiased opinion... #1-I've never once heard or played a Yamaha that I wouldn't be comfortable purchasing. #2- They will outlive you and I for pennies on the dollar lol #3- EVERY guitar needs a setup based on your personal preference and the only singular flaw I found in my new 12 string was... needing to file some of the nut slots to a comfortable height (.020) Stock strings should always be replaced immediately and you're left with a lifetime companion! I truly love Yamaha's mission to give us blue collar folks remarkable instruments in this economy ❤️

I am 62 years old .Been playing for almost 50 years . I am a luthier as well .With that being said , let me give you my experience with this guitar .The construction of this instrument is FLAWLESS !!!It's the loudest guitar I've ever played . The tone is amazing considering this price point .The sustain is outstanding .There was way to much relief in the neck making it tough to play beyond open strumming .I cranked the truss rod tighter to straighten the neck .Now it is KILLER !!!!Easy to play and the intonation is now spot on .BUY IT !!!!It will not play the way you want it to , but if you can make the adjustments, it dials right in .Or take it to get set up .This is made in China , but not made by China .Yamaha went to China and built a 2000 employee mega factory from the ground up .You tube this factory .Quality control is huge .
