I think I have said it all. I love this guitar. The standard N4 is awesome, the paduak N4 is awesome and has a great dark sound and the vintage is a supreme guitar of the highest quality and playability.
Sound
Huge tonal range, very versatile. The relic/vintage is the beast to get if you can afford it but all N4s are amazing machines.
Features
To be fair this guitar can do a whole load. It isn't stacked with features but what it does it does very well. Tone wise there is no tone control but the choice of pickup gives a wide range anyway. You can easily add to this selection by backing off the volume control. The hardware is all top notch, reliable and effective, with grover tuners, floyd rose (some have schaller) trem, bill lawrence l500 in bridge and duncan '59 in neck.
Ease of Use
Less features means less to learn and less to go wrong. Playability is what this guitar is all about. The neck is pure joy and the guitar is light and very well balanced. I have the vintage which comes as standard with locking strap buttons too. The pickup switch and volume are well placed and the body is well contoured.
Quality
No fancy finishes here. Just a lovely bit of well cut wood, routed and drilled precisely and finished with wax. All hardware is is of the best quality and well fitted. The vintage has an original floyd rose trem which is made of harder metal than the schaller but both are great bits of gear. The tuners are smooth and precise and the jack and volume are top end, not some cheap parts bolted on.
Value
I paid $1499.99 including shipping to the Uk for my relic, which sells here in England for $2500.00
Manufacturer Support
I emailed an enquiry to washburn and recieved a reply the following day. I would say that was pretty good. I have heard horror stories from others about washburn service but in my own experience they are fantastic.
The Wow Factor
Pure genius. If you are a fan of Nuno Bettencourt it is obvious when first playing this guitar that he had a lot of input. The neck, body, size and weight are all spot on. Everything suits a fast, easy fluid playing style and the neck join makes high fret access an absolut wonder.
