I've been torn for awhile now as to the next guitar I wanted to get next. I have a cheap acoustic worth burning for firewood and a wonderful electric Parker Fly. For a while I've been pushing myself to play more electric to get more familiar with effects and amps, but my playing style for when I want to sit and piddle around has always lended itself to an acoustic feel. So I set out in search for a nice acoustic thinking I might get an acoustic electric if I found a suitable one. Then I found the Taylor T5 and realized that I could continue down my electric driven path but still be able to sit, unplugged and play and get a beautiful acoustic sound. The T5 is for me, the best of both worlds. A sleek guitar with an electric feel and stunning acoustic tonality for a thin hollow-body, even when plugged in. The Hawaiian Koa wood used is a real eye catcher and kinda steals my breath every time I see it. For my needs, this is the perfect guitar, and as versatile as it is, it could easily work in several situations where you need an acoustic guitar, and electric guitar, or both.

I bought this in 2003 along with a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a small 50w Marshall Acoustic amp. I Use both amps at the same time with this guitar, and it has a nice sound coming out of there. Heavy rock, nice round full acoustic, whatever. It just sounds and plays great.

Musical Background:

I play professionally each weekend. Been playing since my Dad handed me a Stella back in the 50's. I play guitar and drums.

I wanted to like this guitar, but sent it back. For all the hype that convinced me to buy it, I didn't like it as an electric or an "acoustic" guitar. It's neither fish nor fowl in my opinion. I have 2 other Taylor acoustics/electrics, and love the Expression sound system in them. But this guitar didn't sound good in any amp I played it through, and bottom line doesn't have good pickups either for electric or acoustic sound. It's a strike out for Taylor in my opinion. Maybe they should stick to acoustics.
