"A steal for $1000"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
The guitar is a MUST if you're buying a mid-priced guitar. The only other guitar I would consider is some of the Blueridges, and just go for what you like!
Sound
The guitar has a treble sound, and sounds nice on figerpicking and open chords.
Features
The sapele in the sides and back was a good choice for the guitar. It gives it a ringing high tone. Very nice.
Quality
The make of the product seems fine. It is assembled in the Taylor factory in California, so it can be trusted. I wouldn't recommend the guitar for touring/traveling because of the delicacy of it. The body is not glossed at all, which makes it a bit more "dentable".
Value
This guitar is comparable to some of the expensive 600 series Taylors. This is great, considering the guitar is only retailed at around $1000.
Manufacturer Support
The first thing Taylor does when you get the guitar is registers you for support in their factory. I have not yet had to deal with them becuase there has been no problems, but knowing I have the support is nice.
The Wow Factor
It feels great to use, and makes you want to play more and more.

"Value-added Taylor!"

Sound
I bought this 214 used and had LR Baggs Element installed.I paid $750.00CDN for the guitar,$200.00 to have P/U installed. All kindsof gain, sometimes I use a soundhole plug because of possible feedback in some venues. It's a 2004 model so I think the mahogany sides and back are solid as in the 314's at that time. It's a great little guitar plugged in,nice neck(I'm a Tele player) maybe a bit lacking in an acoustic situation, but you can't have everything, right?

"Dissapointed Taylor fan"

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars

I returned the product. It was easy to see the more expenisve Taylor's is where I needed to get to for sound and quality. Still looking as once I talked my self into spending much more $$ - there's many more options by many other builders besides Taylor. Don't get me wrong - there are some amazing Taylors when you get over the $2K threshold.
Sound
I've played allot of Taylor's both expensive and affordable. I picked up the Taylor 214 as just a kick around guitar. But, was very dissapointed with the sound. It was just dead sounding - mostly because of its ply construction.
Features
The Taylor came with a really nice hard case gig bag. The execution was nice on the Taylor - but, it seems to me the back and side ply construciton are to heavy. The sound is dead. They are thick enough there's no internal bracing on the back and sides. This obvoously saves time and money in buidling - but doesn't help the sound. The top is solid spruce and braced.
Ease of Use
The other issue with the guitar was the fret dressing. It had several high frets that caused buzz. I neer would have expected this from Taylor. It was unplayable for this reason - I could have had it dressed locally - but, since the sound was dead as well - I just sent it back.
Quality
Again - the sound was very dull due to the ply constrution. I knew it was ply back and sides when I purchased, but I've never heard even a ply construction this sound dead. There were also high frets creating fret buzz - making it unplayabe. Fit and finish - were very nice and of Taylor quality.
Value
I think this Taylor is a bit expensive for what you get. I belive its made in Mexico - and don't understand why it couldn't be a solid mahogany back and sides for this price.
Manufacturer Support
I did not deal with Taylor - I just returened the guitar due to the fret issues. ZZounds was amazng to deal with on the return - they make is very easy when somethings not right. I'm a big fan of ZZounds and have purcahsed many many items and will continue. Their service and prices are great!
The Wow Factor
Taylor always has done a great design job on thier instruments - they nice looking acoustics (though I am not a fan of the designs of their electrics).

"Great guitar for the money"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I went through the pain staking task of trying to find a good sounding, quality built all wood guitar under $1000.00 for months until I picked up this 210 and it was as if it were meant for me. If your looking for the bling factor don't buy it. But if your looking for a great sounding well built solid wood guitar under 1k you can't go wrong with this one. Go play it and see for your self!
Sound
The sound is incredible. I have played several other models in this under 1000 category and couldn't find another one even close to the beautiful sound of the instrument. Don't take my word for it go play one for yourself and see what I mean.
Features
solid wood...no frills...but beautiful in it's simplicity. comes with a hard shell case that fits snug just like it should.
Quality
Quality made instrument. Like ALL solid wood guitars you need to take some extra care with cleaning, humidity etc. Something to think about if you just want to leave it lying around or if you live in an extreme climate.
Value
you will be hard pressed to find another guitar with this kind of sound in this price range.
Manufacturer Support
I have personally never had any return etc. with them but my local dealer who sells them as well as other top brands can't say enough good things about them.
The Wow Factor
I love this guitar and you will too.
