I LOVE ZZOUNDS!!! THEY ROCK MY WORLD. I researched for a while and was excited to about the Tascam DR-44WL. It does a great job, and sounds great, and is very reliable. It does drain batteries very quickly, but I just recharge before every use or plug it in. When you're holding it in your hand, it doesn't exactly feel sexy or sleek, or ergonomically designed. I thought it had adjustable mic preamps, but they are apparently not adjustable. Also, I wish you could solo the different tracks when you play them back. If you record XLR in and at the same time use the device mics (which sound great but are locked in place and can't be adjusted) you can't solo just the XLR to hear how clean it is without also hearing the device mics, which makes it hard to check that your recording is good. The way they make you adjust the input levels is a bit awkward, but on the upshot you will never accidentally bump the volume during recording. The iphone app is AMAZING and way better than the interface on the device itself. I really like the 4 - Track multi track recording feature, where you can add reverb etc. Overall I recommend it because it excels where it really counts, the audio quality and being 100% reliable.
