The CMC-PD is very responsive to Cubases Groove agent in that whatever kit you choose you can switch banks within that kit...so you can actually select the banks from on the pads. Its a midi device, so it doesn't generate its own sound. however you can determine the level of reponsiveness of the pad from basically ultra sensitive or to where u gotta brutally thump on it to get your sound feedback. I like my pads very sensitive so I can be quick on the drums. I haven't tested it with any other software, but it does work as a midi pad for other sounds. For the price I paid couldn't lose, real good deal, real talk

I wanted something better than a synth keyboard to lay down drum tracks and the CMC-PD is an economical solution that works very well. The selection of velocity curves is good and the abiliy to use the 4 velocity button to assign the four vertical button rows into assending velocities is really nice. The programability through the included sw application works nicely. The feel of the pads is solid and accurate and the color changes for velocity is nice feedback. I would recommend this module to anyone looking for a drum pad accessory.

"Nektar Impact LX49 good on paper"

I wanted to replace a small mini 25key keyboard I have with something I could play with both hands and use as a controller for Cubase. I did a lot of research since I didn't want to pay much more than $180. I was able to see m-Audio, Alesis, Akai, Samson and Novation units in a store, but the spec sheet and videos of the Nektar Impact looked really good, so I bought one. The build quality is decent, although the keys are a bit clackly and the definition of partially weighted keys covers a broad range, for which LX49 feels more like a bouncy synth than a weighted keyboard. The sliders and buttons are all nice. However, I found the Cubase integration medeocre. Transport buttons and Shift+ for mixer and instrument settings all worked. But, the assignment of the dials were not all that great. I ended up returning the keyboard because when I went to program the controller, it is difficult and not documented well at all. It seemed what I programmed sometimes worked or was saved, and other times it did not work at all. I am going to try the Samson Graphite 49 instead. It is a little more expensive, but has a better keyboard feel, better feature set and appears to have easier programmability.
