Stanton STR8.150HP Ultra High-Torque Straight-arm Turntable

Stanton calls the STR8.150HP turntable "ultra high torque." You'll call it a super-stable, virtually skip-proof turntable that starts and stops on a dime.

I bought these based on the price, some online reviews and a quick hands on at a local shop. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. They're built like a truck, loads of torque, and have a lot more features than I would have expected in a $500-$600 turntable. They also come with a sm.v3 cart mounted on a stanton headshell and the sound is loud and clean on vinyl. It holds a groove pretty well when scratching. Timecode works fine. They're also pretty nice looking, IMHO. My only gripe is pretty minor... the second start/stop button. I find it unnecessary, and I think the space would be better without it. It leaves nowhere to put your 45 adapter or a dicer or any number of other things that would prove more useful than TWO start/stop buttons. Why? Seriously, who needs that? Still gotta give these things 5/5 though. If you're on a budget, these are a the decks you want. If price wasn't an issue I would have gone with some 1210s/m44-7s, but it was, and I feel like I definitely made the right choice here,

I love the Technic 1200's and the ability to let the needle hang for an intentional loop, but the intentional loop is the only reason I'd choose technic over the Stanton Str8-150. I own two- one bought in 2010 and the other purchased Oct 2015. Reverse, 33.3, 45, 78rm, start and brake envelopes, 8, 25, 50% pitch. And the thing has a solid body! I don't trust scratching on a turntable that weighs less than 35lbs! Go ahead bump my table, this turntable can withstand a rocking!

One of the best out there, super heavy for stability and the torque is absolutely incredible. Stanton did a great job of constructing and building a beast.

This thing is solid! It does weigh a bit more than your average turntable but got used to the weight after lugging it about a couple of times so no big deal there. The start and stop features are really cool, you can start up or stop at any speed to give an awesome effect. The standard needle it came with is a descent one but you might need a better one if you want to do some scratching. Theres supposed to be a light that pops up for easier track id that I saw on reviews but cant find it on the tables. The slip mat is very good, the only problem i had was the fact that the turntables have 2 start and stop buttons...I dont really see a use for 2 but you never know. The legs have a spring to it that I really like but not sure if that might cause stability problems in the future. Very good product that manufacturers took time to build right. It wouldve been cool if they included a clear top cover for it to keep it clean...for the $500 plus price tag I think that would've been the nice thing to do instead of having to go out and buy a $100-150 case for it but hey you cant always get what you want:) P.S. One big disappointment was finding out that Gibson owns Stanton, I used to play guitar and was disgusted at the ridiculous prices they would charge for poorly manufactured instruments..like my dad always says "They dont make em like they used to".
