"TOO MUCH FUN"

After years of playing my Telecaster, this Jag is just so much fun to play, and compared to the Tele, much easier to play also. Did I mention the fun part? The 9.5" radius is very comfortable, but when I first saw the little tiny frets, I was a bit bummed, but within a few minutes I found them very easy to play. The 24" scale makes for very easy string bending (I have .10 flat wounds on it now) and the vibrato arm is pretty stable as far as tuning goes. It can go a tiny bit sharp after a song, but I think that has more to do with the nut slots, which I'm still dialing in. Out of the box there was quite a bit of relief in the neck, but following Fender's directions on the web site, I've gotten it to within a couple of microns of spec and have a nice, low action. To take this from a pretty, inexpensive guitar that everyone hates the bridge on, to a player, I've done two things. The first is to shim the neck and the second was to add a BuzzStop. Bringing the neck up a bit was to help the break angle of the string over the saddles, increasing downward pressure on the bridge, and the BuzzStop was to do the same, by a factor of ten. The nice about the BuzzStop is that it's a non-marring, non-altering-your-guitar solution which installs or come back off in about five minutes with a phillips head screwdriver. The tuning is now extremely stable. The fit and finish on mine was great. The frets are well seated and smooth. The only thing I've done was sandpapered down a couple of the pick guard screw heads around the neck pickup as I occasionally was getting a few scrapes from them. I'll probably do the same thing to the edges of the pickup selector switches. My only complaint is that Fender hasn't seen fit to issue instructions, or a manual of some sort about the design, theory, and function of the bridge on this thing. It's the only real problem that people have with the guitar, and if they'd print up a little two sided instruction sheet and include it with the guitar, they'd save everyone a LOT of heartache. Now that I understand more about the bridge, I'm going to put on some .12s, and take off the BuzzStop, to see if that puts enough downward pressure on the bridge.

Wasn't surprised much by the VMJ , I had done my research and most were spot on, overall build quality was Squire-esque, a few loose screws here and there, wrong string gauge (from what's needed) from factory. needing a in depth setup out of the box......The quality of the Squire brand Fenders has improved thru the years. I wanted this style guitar for the shorter scale, getting older and looking for ways to keep playing without hurting, it serves it's purpose, it also has a unique sound, Does not want to stay "in tune" but with a gauge or two increase on the string selection of your choice it improves, but loose a little of it's desired sound if that's what's you're going for, but as mentioned I got it for the shorter scale......so setup will be to make it user friendly play ability....

The sound of this guitar is fantastic. You wont get a prettier guitar for the money. The amount of sound possibilities can keep you entertained almost as much as a "strat" with a 5 way switch and 3 pickups. As far as quality is concerned, the bridge is like all the other Jaguars. It is hard to dial in and you will be battling constant buzzing, but if you don't mind playing with it for a while, you really can dial it in. The frets on my guitar protrude from the fretboard and are sharp! I keep mine on a wall hanger and the weight of the guitar actually cut my hand as I grabbed it from it's neck! Poor quality control there, but it's the price you pay for not shelling out the big bucks for a "fender". The vintage tuners look cool, but the don't hold a tune very well. With a little money in upgrades, you're sure to have a lifelong favorite amongst your collection!

Amazing guitar. I was blown away by the sounds you can get from this instrument. Being my first Jag I didn't know what to expect, but it quickly became my #1. In short the Jag is a quirky guitar without much sustain with a one of a kind sound. Oh and those bell like overtones are something else. Yes the bridge is a hassle but its fixable. Do your research and you won't be dissapointed.

The price can't be beat, and it's cool that Squier is making this run of models. Keep in mind that they aren't going to be the quality of true Fender guitars. The manufacturer (not zzounds) sent the wrong tremolo bar with the guitar and it is missing some screws. Also, the strings are low gauge and have gone flat less than a month after I started playing the guitar. All of this is remedied and with the installment plan I can purchase guitars I've wanted to buy for years but have never been able to afford.

I'm moving out of state and my American guitars have been sold off. I replaced my JazzMaster and Jaguar with "gulp" the Squire versions made in Indonesia. . Not expecting much..What a great surprise... Since we are talking Jaguar here, I should start from the beginning about what I plug the Jag into.. A Zoom G3, stereo out to 2 Fender Greta Amps, mike with one mike which had 2 diaphragms, stereo out to an ART PRO VLA 2's and either record with a Tascam 32 or mike the amps to a monitor for live playin. The Greta's are only 2 watts each.each Greta to an Eminence speaker. With all components running "flat" I give the edge to the Americans.. although not a whole bunch.. Running through my G3 etc.. the Indonisia guitars take the prize hands down.. at least for he eclectic playing I do. One very strange thing with the Squires.. (I have 2 of each, on set for slide the other setup for finger pickin' 3 of the 4 has 1 screw missing (like me" at the same place..I also notice that each one is made from 3 pieces of wood although its hard to tell. Here's the big difference.. I have to back off on the EFX some and the sound really gets me in the groove I feel kinda bad for the workers in the Indonesia plant because each one has been good to go..(slight adjustments) and the mysterious missing screws. I know it would take a blind A/B test and I can't do that, but all and all I'm very happy. No rattles from the infamous bridge .. great feel .. great sounds from both sides of the switch. The JazzMaster has a position that has a great "scooped" out sound.. but thats for a different review. Purchase one.. I have to admit I like the JazzMaster a bit more but the Jag has a bit more "pop" to it... whats the worst that could happen? send it back if you don't like it, or send it to me!

I Just Got This Jacguar Vintage Modified In The Candy Apple Red And I'm Very Happy Indeed. It Looked Great Right Out Out Of The Box. I Just Lowered The Saddles At The Bridge And Now It Plays And Sounds Great. The Tremolo Bar Is The Best I've Ever Used. It Sits Up Higher Than They Usually Do. I've Been Playing For 46 Years And This Is My Favorite To Play. I'll Be Using This To Play In The Praise/Worship Group From Now On. It Really Looks Fantastic And With The 3 Black Pickup Switches You Can Get Some Really Great Sounds. Like John Fogarty, Classic Rock To Name A Few. I Plan On Keeping This One. It's A Joy To Play.

It takes a lot of work, but if you commit to it and do your research you can make this a fantastic instrument. Positives: beautiful finish, amazing versatility, incredible value. Negative: terrible setup out of box, bridge issues, poor quality nut. If you are looking for a cheap guitar to fix up/learn to fix up this is an amazing option. After several setup attempts and some extra parts (new nut and a buzz stop attachment) this guitar is worth above and beyond the overall cost. Highly recommend, as long as you understand that it needs lots of work.

Well this time I'm making it count before set-up. My new Jaguar is having a bit of trouble right now, it won't stay tuned...the bridge can't decide if it's staying forward or backward. The upper rhythm tone switch kept rolling, took the cover off...pot seemed fine, then to my amazement i tightened the wheel, but the screw wouldn't stop spinning (still haven't a clue on that one) but it is fixed. But as far as the trem, nut, bridge and all of that are concerned I believe it may cost just a tad to get it squared away. If a set of graphtek saddles and a mute piece are needed then just let me know. Anything to help this pretty guit out. With a few tweaks this guitar Will be The Bomb.

if you want a Jaguar but don't want to pay a hefty amount than this is worth your money. I usually avoid Squire but this is genuinely a good guitar and I enjoy it
