Great headphones at a fair price
Sound
These sound fantastic and are an excellent choice for mixing. Not particularly boosted in any areas that I can hear. I also picked up a Focusrite Vrm box with these headphones to use for referencing. So far so good. I think its and excellent pairing and my mixes are translating to my monitors and consumer stereos very well.
Features
They come with an extra cord and a nice carrying case, big plus in my book.
Quality
Very nice quality, there are alot of moving parts though and I would worry if others used these. I would not give these to the talent in a tracking situation.
Value
These seem priced appropriately for the quality and sound. Yes cheaper would be great but I think if you spend a week with these you would be hard pressed to find any faults.
Manufacturer Support
Ive never had a problem with a shure product.
The Wow Factor
Headphones arent a wow kind of purchase to most folks. But as wow as they could be these certainly are.

Sound
I have several other nice sets of headphones and these are significantly better than all the others. They are very flat with lots of midrange detail. They sound more balanced than my other headphones that cost twice as much. I have about 30 hours working and listening on them and the bass response is getting better and better as I use them.
Features
They come with a nice zipper case, a second cable, and replacement earpads.
Ease of Use
They have a fairly low impedence so they sound good with low level sources,mp3 player, headphone out from multi-effects pedal... MUCH better than other headphones in the same price range. When you put a good amp in front of them, they open up even more and sound fantastic.
Quality
They are made of plastic, but it seems to be a good hard plastic. they are fairly sturdy feeling.
Value
Well worth the asking price, very nice headphones.

All I can say is, I am glad I purchased these cans! I am not going repeat all of the technical aspects of other excellent reviews but I will add my 2 cents. I researched the HELL out of several brands and types of headphones before taking the leap on the 940s. Being a musician and currently owning the Awesome sounding Shure SE535s, I needed some cans that would the same EXCELLENT music reproduction. Growing so a custom to IEMs I was totally afraid I would not like the sound of Over-The-Ear types. I looked at Sennheiser, AKG and many others types and ultimately settled on the Shures. I decided to trust Shure one more time the the 940s have exceeded all expectations. * The sound quality is Awesome even before burn in. (Treble is a little bright) Using biwavegen for break in. * They are extremely well built. * I have worn them the 2 hours straight (Just Got them about 5 hours ago) with no complaints with comfort. * Most of all, My Samsung Galaxy S III with the Power Amp EQ (From Android Play Store) is more than enough to drive them. I couldn't be happier!
