The SM27 is a versatile, ruggedly built microphone. I have used this mic to record vocal's and acoustic instruments. The acoustic recordings sounded much, much better than I was anticipating and for vocals this mic proved to be a good match for my voice. Trying to match a mic to a singers voice can be a difficult process, so I did get lucky with this Shure mic, It may not be a great match for every style of singing, no mic truly is, but this mic shouldn't disappoint anyone, especially at the 299.00 price point. For acrostics it's great! Try it for vocals and you decide. At worst it will be adequate, in my case it was perfect.

I needed a versatile mic for my home studio for songwriting and recording, primarily male voice and acoustic instruments. So far I have used this on my Martin D-35 and my voice. It exceeded all expectations in both cases. On the acoustic it captures all of what I love about my guitar and was very easy to process in my DAW, and the initial recording was so good that I didn’t need much processing at all. What I am particularly excited about is how great this is for my voice. My vocal tracks sit very nicely in the mix with just the right amount of presence and that’s before any processing, which, again, is minimal. I use this with the pre built into my Audient ID4 and I could not be happier. This mic sounds as good and is built as well as mics multiple times the price I paid. Extremely happy with it.
