I'm still looking for headphones that perfectly meet the requirements mentioned above for recording. Nevertheless, these are excellent headphones for listening, and even for my purposes to a large degree. In this price range, the HD600s are the best I'm aware of.
Sound
Very good stereo imaging for headphones. Great frequency and dynamic range, not harsh or fatiguing, probably because they start to roll off a little somewhere around 8kHz. They're great for listening to commercial recordings and, to some extent, mixes in progress. But, unless mine are defective, you need to be aware that there may be more ultra high-end energy present in the source than can be heard with the HD600s. I do find them great for tracking instruments on a DI in the control room.
Features
Straight cable, nicely padded all round, and the 1/4" adapter pulls off (to access the 1/8" plug) instead of unscrewing, which has saved me from damaging the cable by stepping on it about fifty times. They cup the ears pretty snugly, which is necessary for good bass response. Still, they're comfortable for me.
Quality
Excellent.
Value
I haven't heard any other headphones as good, but I've compared only one other make in this price range. What do I know about value? They were worth every penny to me.
Manufacturer Support
No experience. I've had mine for a couple of years without any problems, despite pretty heavy and careless usage. I roll my chair over the cable all the time.
The Wow Factor
As impressive as the HD600s are, I still prefer, and mostly use, monitors. I simply needed a good pair of reference headphones for checking details in mixes and when I'm recording in the same space as the musicians.

Using the Sennheiser HD600's with an Apogee Groove DAC/Headphone amp. The HD600's are worth every penny. Simply unreal. Not overridden with bass like so many headphones these days. Perfectly balanced sonically.

I ordered these and am completely blown away by the sound! I've never heard sound so clear, so focused before. I was recommended these by a friend and I have to say if you're hesitating, JUST BUY THESE! The bass is very present, but not overly boomy or overpowering. The mids are absolutely PERFECT. The treble is very articulate, but not overly in-your-face. Just the perfect sound signature for me. There's a reason these things have been around for so long. I couldn't be happier. zZounds was great with my purchase. These were ordered on a Saturday and received on Tuesday. Can't ask for more than that. Plus, they price matched a competitor and beat their price! So, if you find a better price somewhere else, don't hesitate to request a price match. Very satisfied customer here.

"The cadillac of headphones."

Sound
I've listened to Mahler's 8th and heard pages turning and the bow scraping across the string of the bass while the flutists take a breath. I've listend to King Crimson and heard the tip of the stick strike the cymbal while the lowest of the lows growls from the Chapman stick. The sound is crisp and full.
Features
The padding might get a little sweaty after prolonged use.
Quality
The plastic has a beautiful tortoise shell finish on mine. Very impressive. They feel a bit tight, but hopefully will loosen up -- unless my head gets smaller.

This is very detailed, high quality headphone. Now I can judge my and other songs with confidence. Note, however, that this is an open headphone. That means, for a home studio owner myself, I cannot record vocal and listen to it with this headphone at the same time. But of course, that's not a big deal since I can easily use another closed headphone for that purpose. For closed headphones, it is very common that too much bass trapped inside can distort the sound, but this headphone provides very natural sound. Even if you are working in a home studio, this is the best headphone for you.
