"Hard to beat at this price!"

I was looking to upgrade from a Fender MIM p bass and stumbled across this beauty. I think what initially caught my attention was that for the price (which is lower than the standard MIM p bass) this bass offered a lot of higher end finishes which you couldn't find elsewhere for under $1000.00. Reviews were almost universally positive so I decided to take a chance and order one. I couldn't be happier that I did! First off - this thing is solid - a little heavier than most basses I have played in the past but it's not uncomfortable. The neck is thicker too - I have big hands so no problem there, but something to consider if you've got smaller hands. The bridge is big, thick and is a huge improvement over the usual vintage style bridges Fender uses. The Grover tuners are rock solid and smooth. I prefer the p bass style neck pick up verses the humbucker at the bridge but it is a nice bonus - blending the two together creates some pretty thick tones. I've played both active and passive basses and I will say this - while these pick ups are not active they are plenty powerful! To be honest I have not used the coil tapping feature yet but I am sure it could be useful especially for jazz players. Mine came very nicely set up. Playable right out of the box (after a quick tuning) - the action is low as others have stated but most will set up a new bass anyway so no issue there. All in all for the price it would be very hard to beat the Schecter Diamond - P Custom. If you are looking for a versatile bass and like the P Bass style I would highly recommend checking this bass out. It's familiar and you'll be able to dial in a nice variety of tones while getting a ton of bang for your buck!
Sound
Full thick lows, crisp clean highs - the mids are there although you might end up leaning on your preamp to dial in a fuller mid range. For passive pickups these things have got some oomph!
Features
The bridge is awesome as are the Grover tuners. String through body is a nice touch as well. The stock pickups are really nice too!
Ease of Use
As simple as can be. Plug in, turn it up and adjust your tone to taste and you're ready to go.
Quality
I have never bought a bass at this price with quality of this magnitude. I've owned a nice range of American and Mexican made basses and this one is easily up there with the most American made Fenders I have played.
Value
For the $500.00 dollar range this is a LOT of bass. Look around and I think you would be hard pressed to find a bass at this price point with as many higher end features as this one offers.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had a need to contact Schecter so can't really say much about their support.
The Wow Factor
To be honest I was not completely sure about the dark metallic blue color at first but went for it based on the features and reviews. You know what? This thing is gorgeous! Kinda nice to have it stand out a bit as different too.

"Looking for a classic P"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I was looking for a good vintage P bass at my local music store. I found this on clearance in white and tried it. They were allowing demo's on a small 12 mark bass rig. I was looking for old school tone. I found it with this bass. Maybe not a true 57 P but still a good representation. There were added benefits with the dual single bridge pickup. I was thinking Wow! Better than my deluxe Fender. Then the coil tap gave a little extra capability to that. Then I noticed the nice low action I try to get on my Fenders. Already there! No effort required. Easy to play right out of the box. Schecter where have you been all my life? Great tones from old school to modern. Playing Classic Rock, Country and Blues what else would you need? I put a set of Chromes on it and I'm there. I took it home.

The Bass is quite Awesome! The high end sound is sweet and the low end definately rocks! And with the Booster, just push in the knob and the sound doubles man!! All in all, the tone is great, and the low action is awesome, I don't have to hold down as much as I do with my other bass. I have not expericence any fuzzing tone(yet). The only thing negative is that this bass is one heavy dude, but of course, you get use to it (adapt and overcome). Rock N Roll Brothers!!!! \m/

Musical Background:

Been jamming for a decade now and finally, finally put a band together. I play Bass, jam at home when not in session.

"Best Instrument I've Ever Played"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I was blown away by this instrument and it is now my main ax. I only expect it to be replaced by the forthcoming 5 string version.
Sound
Warm, deep, powerful, smooth. All of the above, all at once. The bridge pickup provides beautiful growl while the neck pickup adds fatness and bottom. I literally did not put this down until I placed it in my trunk to take it home. Iron fist in a velvet glove.
Features
I wish it came with black hardware and a body-maching painted headstock, but those are small cosmetic details. Between the ability to blend pickups and the coil tap, I can get any sound I want.
Ease of Use
Came with fantastic action, the sound variability is pretty easy to figure out. It plays like butter and it seems impossible to get bad sounds out of it. It was very easy to tweak the setup to my liking (the action was actually a shade too low for me out of the box).
Quality
Still new so I don't know about lastability but my other Schecters have certainly held up well. Fit, finish, and initial set up were fantastic.
Value
Sounded better to me than any bass I've ever played, which includes high end Tobias, Yamaha, and even Alembic. Compares very favorably to a high end Music Man, IMO. I picked this one over Tobias, Fender, Gibson, and other Schecters that I was trying out that day.
The Wow Factor
I didn't like the look of it (it's a little too "old school" looking for me). I still give this an "8" because the feel of the instrument is superb. It fit me like a glove. I have smaller hands for a bass player, however, so this may vary for you.
