Samson CH700 Headphones Customer Review

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Absolutely great for sound quality for live or studio monitoring or recording! For the price, you can't beat it. If you need something very durable, or something for very intense high-range monitoring this isn't it. But if you're just starting out or on a budget for accurate good sounding studio or monitoring headphones, these are it.
Sound
These headphones sound very good when used for monitoring or studio applications. They will crackle slightly in the high range when used at loud volumes, other than that they produce a very detailed and accurate sound all in all. Very good low and mid ranges. They are not good for listening to most portable cd/mp3 players, computer audio or most any application where it is required to use the 1/8" phono plug as opposed to the 1/4". The reason for this is that they have a higher impedance than most headphones (such as sony mdr-v6) used for those applications that don't put out much power. Resulting in low volume and harsh sound when eq is applied. But, they were designed for studio reference not for general purpose. Sound great through any good headphone amp that produces enough juice.
Quality
Good quality. Plastic support could be improved. May be easy to break with rough handling, but fairly sturdy. Very comfortable to wear for any duration of time.
Value
Very good value for the price! Can not get this sound quality for similar price.

"Best for the money."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

If they last I will buy others if I want to expand.
Sound
These phones are a great value. I own two pair. Very comfortable Good, not outtstanding fidelity. I initially tried them out at Sam Ash on that headphone tree-like thingy where the prices went up to $300.00. You had to go to $150.00 before you got noticeably better sound. very balanced. I like the way that the sound out of My Tascam Dp-02 through these phones is very close to what I get on the burned CD. Also they seem very sturdy so far.
Features
Nice long cord. Nicely plated connectors, good quality components in general.
Ease of Use
These work well with the Behringer MicroAmp headphone amp.
Quality
Very well made especially for the little money they cost. More rugged than a $200 pair of Sonys I am aware of.
Value
Very much worth the price, in fact that is the most outstanding thing about these phones. There are no better at this price point or any others up to $100.00
Manufacturer Support
Don't know at this point.
The Wow Factor
Pretty much basic phones.

"Bought at thrift store"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought these headphones at a Florida thrift store for about $5. I have had them for 5 years now and they still outperform any other ones I've had. They are comfortable to wear for hours and supply the listener with accurate and solid sound. I would recommend them to any audiophile.

"Warm sounding cans but not the sturdiest"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
These cans sounded good with my digital piano (Kawai mp9000). Warm sounding for accoustic instruments without harsh upper frequency range. A bought Sony MDR-V6 headphones for about twice the price but they weren't a good match for my piano. Very harsh sounding upper range and too boomy at the bottom. The MDR-V6's do sound very good for general music listening though.
Features
Not quite as efficient as phones like the Sony's. Same output source sounded much louder on the Sony MDR-V6.
Quality
Unfortunately, these lasted about 6 weeks before the right earpiece fell off and the right wire crimped in half. Am trying to fix it now. But if you are a bit hard on your phones (like me) you might consider paying for something that will take more abuse.

"Disaster Strikes!"

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Samson have put me off their products completely due to how chaotic these are! I use headphones for many different things: Mastering, Monitoring, Sound Pioneering, Film/TV, Excercise etc. But I have no Idea where these will fit in... Maybe if all my other pairs broke somehow in the same day I'd have to use them!!
Sound
I Paid about 40 Pounds for these things & was therefor expecting to get some sort of quality out of them. But no! Sub-Bass is Non-Existant, Bass is so low that you'll make friends with your Graphic EQ, Mid Range is far too powerful & due to the fact that High end is missing aswel means that it sounds like you are listening to sound through 2 Hollow plastic cups! I mean, maybe I have a faulty pair or something? Because I've bought alot of 'phones over the years & have never met a pair that are so bad! Crackle, Crackle - Crackle!
Features
Comes with Tacky plastic packaging & a spare Jack adapter to add to my collection!
Ease of Use
You put them on, they work.
Quality
Another thing that disapointed me is the fact that they look large & therefor give you the impression that they are "Ear-Cups" & cover them. Not so, They are bigger than Ear-Muffs but lay ON the ears! Yes, the sponge is fairly comfortable but it's clear that they didn't have a design plan here as such.
Value
For 40 pounds I could have got a pair of Half decent Sony's or Sennheiser's. What was I thinking? Still, a lesson learnt well!
The Wow Factor
In a way, it's a shame because they do in a way feel nice. But you look like a complete twit from the back with half of the cans over-lapping your ears, but NOT covering them!

"Mechanical Failure Renders Product Unusable"

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The plastic in the bridge of the head phones is made of really poor quality plastic and broke within the first month of use... Keep in mind I'm writing this review using a laptop from 2008... I take care of my belongings but these headphones broke by simple use such as..... taking them off of my ears.... crack.... I would absolutely not recommend this product
