We're a bunch of forty year olds that get together every couple of weeks and jam. We like to capture event, but Cell phones weren't cutting it, So I invested in a ZOOM R8( See review on that later). The one issue I was having with recording was distortion/noise in the cymbals and getting a good Kick tone.Although the SSK has been marketing as a practice tool, It's Mixer and XLR outputs pair well with the R8's inputs. We opted to get the optional stands and Cables, otherwise it was pointless to have the SSK at all. Once we had everything set up, it only took a couple of minutes to dial in a sound that my drummer liked. That dedicated kick channel is a blessing.

Musical Background:

Playing for fun for over 25 years. I play bass and guitar mostly. I enjoy sequencing and recording as well.

Musical Style:

Post metal Sludge, Folkternative, World Music, 80s synth pop. There's very few genres of music that I hate.

The SSK is an innovative concept that could use a little more tweaking. I was excited about the SD card option but was disappointed when I went through three different cards and the reader wouldn't recognize any of them. Recording directly to a PC, the sound is ok in the recommended setup from the instructions using the isosceles concept. Rearranged to an under-cymbal mic setup and made a big difference in sound production.

Musical Background:

11 years on drums, weekend local gigs and some worship settings

Musical Style:

Rock, metal, contemporary christian
