I wish it had a rolloff switch.

Quality:
The mic is well made and seems to be tough enough to live in the storage compartment of my SKB mic box,in its bag. For the money vs. bang it gets the job done.

Overall:
I own a small sound co. Since I bought this mic I have only used it in live applications, for overhead drum application it works well. I've also always had a problem bringing percussion out to the front of a loud stage mix but this mic proved delightful at delivering the goods. I am in the process of putting together a limited recording/mixing suite at home and I intend to buy a second NT-3.

With my voice this mic really was the best option I found. i first bought a neuman kms105. I liked my cheap dynamic better. sure it was clear, but no love. I tried sienhiser (sorry about the spelling) tried shure 58 a and beta. 57 too...not much better than my cheapy dynamic. The rode was clear, warm and I bought it. At my next gig every one asked what I had done: they could understand all the words now.

After several years experience working as an engineer in several medium/largeish recordind studios around Melbourne it was time to set up a small project studio of my own at my house. I have used several rode mics before, including the NT2, and the Classic II, so i knew that rode could deliver. As my initial mic budget was pretty average, i decided to buy 2 NT3's as all rounders. Ive scince used them on acoustic and elecrtic guitars, on drums as a Hi-Hats/ ride cymbal pairs, on electric bass and as a vocal mic. If you can only afford one microphone i suggest trying an NT3.

This microphone is built quite well, especially it's not in a plastic case which could be easily damaged. The frequency response is quite neutral expect a little emphasis on the bass frequencies up to a distance to 2-3 metres from sound source.

As it is not an "electret" microphone, it takes at least 10 to 20 seconds after switching on to get ready to use. (and when operated on battery, it gives two loud peaks during that time, so it's good to wait the time before switching on the mixer/recording channel).

But these are the only disadvantages, over all it is very good for it's price, and the only alternative would be the AKG C-1000, but that's an electret condenser microphone.

Nice mic, beats C1000 hands down. Great on acoustic guitar. As good as any other small diaphram mic, and at a great price. That's why I'm buying two.
