"AWESOME AMP, BEST TUBE AMP ON THE MARKET FOR THE PRICE!!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Sound
This amp is AWESOME, iv played probably between 10-20 shows with it and i love it. I have friends who play mesa, marshall, krank and all those "quality brand" amps that you pay out the ass for. And i honestly would pick the ValveKing over most of them. Even recording in the studio i brought it and the guy recording us was sooo suprised with the Valveking head. We used a ENGL head along with mine for rythm and lead, and pluged them into a mesa cab and the valveking basically sounded and performed just as good as the other head (wich cost about $1000 more). These amps sound amazing if you take a noise suppressor and run it through the effects loop, it cranks out such sick tone and these amps are LOUD, at gigs the sound guy usually tells me to turn it way down even when the volume is only at like 5. I highly recomend the Valvking half stack to any who doesnt wanna play out the ass for an amp that isnt much better than a valveking. Over all SICK AMP!
Features
Everything is awesome, and the texture knob on the back lets you mess with your tone so good so you can find your perfect tone. the only thing i think they could improve on it is that the effects loop is on the front of the head. Moving it to the back would be a lot better in my opinion.
Ease of Use
easy to use, not a whole bunch of useless effects on it or anything so its pretty simple to figure it out and get the perfect tone your looking for
Quality
Very good quality!
Value
BEST TUBE HALF STACK ON THE MARKET FOR THE PRICE! PERIOD!!
Manufacturer Support
they have a good warrenty and peavey is AWESOME about helping their customers out. Nothing has gone wrong with mine in the 2 years that iv had it so i havent had to deal with getting support for it.
The Wow Factor
the head looks pretty sweet but the cab it comes with is nothing special really. could use some better looks

I played my first valve king a few months ago at a local music shop and really liked it. I came home to do some research on it and I have never been more baffled by the wide range of reviews... this is just my humble opinion but I like this amp more than some that are twice as much. The clean channel is good.. it's not going to blow you away, but it gives a very pure tone. My Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul, my Strat sounds like a strat.. it's warm, notes chime out the way a tube amp should. Now the Dirty channel is amazing! This is where it outshines amps that are almost twice as much. It's really warm and thick. Tone is a matter of preference, I personally love the sound this valveking delivers, some don't... but dont dismiss this amp because of the price. The good: the Dirty channel is absolutely amazing.. this amp is LOUD.. it's powerful enough to play almost any venue, yet versatile and sounds great on 5w in my music room. The bad: Doesn't include foot switch... this annoys me beyond belief... it's like selling French Fries and charging extra for ketchup.. the head is adjustable but cab only accepts 16ohms? And it's ugly.. this head and cab isn't going to win any beauty contests... I will say it doesn't look like a vintage toaster oven or a toy at least! Resale: if you plan on upgrading someday you may want to rethink this amp... used valve kings are pretty easy to find and 100 watt amps are becoming dinosaurs but If it says Marshall, Fender, or Orange people are going to buy them no matter what...

"Nothing like tube tunes."

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'll use it till it dies. If lost or stolen, I would upgrade.
Sound
The head sounds great. The clean channel chimes like only a tube amp can. Dailing in warm full tones was easy with the "texture" and "damping" controls. The lead channel is what you would expect on a entry level tube amp. Turning the gain all the up brings out the tones of classic hard rock of not so long ago. The cab sounded good in the clean channel. In the lead channel the cab/speakers shows it's weakness. A speaker upgrade would add more to the sound quality.
Features
Not a lot of bells and whistles here. The "damping" control is a nice feature. A little light or two around the dails would help.
Ease of Use
Nothing complicated here. You basic tube tones are easy to achieve. Sounded great whatever effect was added.
Quality
For the price it what you would expect. The grill fabric does not seem to be very duriable.
Value
This is a great amp for this price.
Manufacturer Support
Have in the past with no problems.

I got a Peavey ValveKing Half Stack played it for about 3 hours total. Now it just cuts out and breaks up. I dont think i wore out the tubes in 3 hours. What a ripoff. Nothing but junk. I have got many things from zZounds and was always very satisfied. 900.00 for 3 hours playing time save your money.

"Mediocre at best"

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Alright for the price, but I would never buy a tube amp for this cheap.
Sound
I borrowed this amp from a friend while mine was in the shop.. This amp sounded mediocre and got some bad feedback with the Valve King cab. I plugged it into a Hughes & Kettner cab and there was next to no feedback, so the cab is not good quality.
Features
No accessories with it, just the amp and cab. Presence control is a nice thing to have.
Ease of Use
Had all the standard equalizations along with a few others.. Nothing special.
Quality
Seems sturdy. I don't think it would fall apart any time soon.
Value
Well, they say you get what you pay for.. That's about true. Paying that cheap for a tube amp, you're not going to get great quality. After buying a Hughes and Kettner Triamp, I would never consider purchasing this product.
Manufacturer Support
Never dealt with support
The Wow Factor
The looks are kind of bland..
