Bought this head new from zZounds about a year and a half ago, and its been nothing but reliable and dependable, and plenty loud. the sound quality is pretty good too for the price point. I tend to run a bass preamp/DI in the front with the gain knob around 3 or 4 on the amp, so i can blend in a nice clean sound with just a touch of bite blended in on top. Even without a preamp in front, you get a bright, contour, and crunch switch, a compressor, and a 7 band EQ, your tone shaping possibilities are endless. I will say though, im not a huge fan of the on board compressor, it seems to start to really squish the sound and make it sound eh on anything above 5. that may not be a problem for you, but the style i play usually requires the bass to be pretty compressed. My only real complaint is that i wish there were 2 speakon outputs on the back instead of just the one. i run 2 peavey headliner 4x10s with this head, and a few times have lost sound completely because the 1/4" input in the cab had disconnected itself because it couldn't handle the power. A 1/4" to speakon cable fixed the problem, but it wouldn't be a bad option to have for the sake of consistency. Overall its not a huge deal, but a second speakon jack at least on the cab would be nice.Overall if your a gigging or touring musician looking for something dependable, good sounding, and relatively affordable, i would definitely recommend this amp. its not on the same level as an Ampeg SVT, Fender Bassman, or Darkglass Microtubes, but it can get you through any gig with a little tweaking and without dropping $1k + on an amp.

First off, i bought this at a local store because i couldnt wait for the zZounds shipping order, i needed it right away, otherwise, the majority of my gear shopping is done at zZounds, their payments plans are the best! This amp, right out of the box i got a great tone without even using the graphic EQ, the Bright, Contour and Crunch buttons are very useful depending on the tone you want. Full Thick tone down to midrangy and high trebly punch. No matter what bass you have you can make it sound great with this amp! I love it!I dialed in quickly what i wanted with the EQ and started practice, sounded great and the guys complimented the sound i was getting! Peavey nailed it with this amp. its a 1000 watts RMS, at 4ohms and we play LOUD, and i only turned up to 4!!Great deal at $449! dont hesitate!

Peavey nailed it on this head.... If you're playing church gigs and clubs...this head is what you want.... Instead of buying another axe get this first....have not used it on a gig yet lol but if you're like me and struggle to find your tone from venue to venue...this thing will get your point across regardless of other factors

I have been playing professionally for about 6 years
