"Nice Bass, Great Value"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
I have found this bass to be of a much higher quality than I would expect to find in this price range. Sound is a matter of taste. I find this bass to have the warm sound typical of neck through design. The passive humbuckers do a nice job relative to other passive pickups. They don't replace active pickups, but you don't find basses with Bartolini's in this price range. The only negatives are that it took my instructor about a week to really get this bass dialed in. It sounds great when playing softly or moderately. Really aggressive players will find it to be a bit buzzy.
Features
The oil finish looks great and I really like the feel. An additional bonus is the balance of this bass. The top horn of the body extends all the way past the twevlth fret. The result is a very light feel from the neck. I haven't seen many neck through basses that I would rather have than this one for less than $1,000. I've even seen some $1,000+ neck throughs that I don't think measure up to this one. On top of the nice feel and quality sound, this bass really is pretty. I wasn't familiar with imbuya would. It is a Brazilian wood that is sometimes referred to as Brazilian walnut because of its similarities with American black walnut. It looks really nice.
Quality
The fit and finish were excellent. A set of Grover or equivalent tuning machines would be an improvement.
Value
This bass is probably worth two or three times what it actually sells for if it is judged purely on sound, feel and looks. The negative stereo type of foreign made guitars is the main thing holding it back. So what, Stratevarius wasn't American either, and most violinists seem to like his products.
The Wow Factor
People who see this bass react very positively. Only bass players who really know their equipment will know that this is an inexpensive modle unless you tell them. The rest of the world doesn't know the difference between a $100 bass and $5,000 bass.

"best bass you will get in this price range and above"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Got my bass today along with my Max115 combo. The sounds you can get from this package are really impressive. I got my bass and amp for what you can easily pay for just a bass that does not sound any better. I have a Bartolini preamp on order but I'm not sure I'm going to bother because this thing already snarls! Not only does it sound great but it looks great too. It has the look of a bass that would cost two or three times as much. Throw a little lemon oil on it and it gleams like a fine piece of furniture! I don't think I could have spent this amount of money on any bass out there and be this happy with it.

I'm going to keep this bass, I cannot foresee selling it in the future. My family has always been a Peavey family being from Mississippi, so I do plan on buying a Mississippi made Peavey in the distant future when finances allow it....after graduating from college.
Sound
The sound is great, I have only two issues with the bass. 1) The pots are low quality and only start to adjust at the the very end of its adjustment. 2) The bass came buzzing out of the box, I had it professionally setup but it still buzzes on the low string on the lower frets. Just something I'm going to have to live with.
Features
I got the package deal, the bass with the Peavey hardshell case. Very good deal, only 10 extra dollars for a hardshell couldn't be beat!
Ease of Use
This bass needs to be set up correctly upon delivery. Intonation was pretty far off and the buzzing sound of mine couldn't be alleviated. But I love how it plays none the less.
Quality
It is a very nice looking and playing bass. The pots are the worst aspect of the quality of the bass. I'd pay an extra 10 or 20 bucks for the bass to have come with nicer pots. Being that it isn't a Mississippi Peavey product, I did expect there to be some issues here and there with quality, the buzzing being one of them.
Value
This bass is the best you will get for the price that you pay. Sure you can find a "better" bass but you will also pay another 500 bucks doing so.
Manufacturer Support
I will certainly buy from zzounds again, they are second to none in answering questions not to mention the zero interest financing. My credit isn't the best yet I still got approved for their financing. So far, they have my business for life.
The Wow Factor
I love the natural wood look. I first fell in love with Peavey's wood look when I was a teen and bought a Peavey T-60.

"Worth every penny!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Overall, great sound. I think the tone controls could be a bit more responsive; they don't seem to alter the sound much. The tone is full-range, good lows, clear mids, good highs. It does mid to hi best; low is good but could be better for a neck-through. It seems to be more sensitive to high amplification; in studio, it sounds perfect, live at high volumes, it requires more tweaking and EQ'ing to be right and not boomy or tinny.
Features
To me, the least useful feature is the scalloped horn. The tuners are good, but I've had other basses that stayed in tune better. The bridge is top-notch. I like the feel of the neck. For some reason, my BXP came with a 35" scale, not 34". I also like that the fret markers are on the edge of the neck you look at, not on the fretboard.
Ease of Use
When using live at high volume, you have to adjust your sound very carefully. At normal volumes or in studio, it's very forgiving and has a nice sound. I think it plays nicely, although with such a long scale (mine is 35", not 34") you must finger accurately or you get buzz. If you play properly, it plays nice and sounds great. NOT for players with small hands.
Quality
I think it's beautifully made, especially for an instr. in this price range. I'd only take it on the road in a very good case, either hard shell or ATA/Anvil. If it's treated properly, I see no reasson it wouldn't last a very long time. You might end up replacing either the tuners or the frets, if you have it for a REALLY long time.
Manufacturer Support
Never had to deal with it, but I've owned many Peavey products over time and they've always been helpful when needed.
The Wow Factor
It's definitely a sexy axe - beautiful wood finish and black hardware. It's got a great shape. Only the useless horn scallop takes away from the overall look, but it's also different enough to get women to ask...8^)

I think this is my kind of bass ;)
Sound
The sound on this bass is amazing. Active pickups give you great control, then turn on the passive and get some growl. An awesome sounding product, indeed.
Features
Well, my only complaint is I'd like to have more knobs and controls, just so i can get that perfect sound.
Ease of Use
Easy, easy. Its like using a fork.
Quality
I disliked the factory strings, but the quality is incredible for the price.
Value
Wow. This is indeed a Peavey. Cheap yet quality on the highest level.
Manufacturer Support
we'll never know.
The Wow Factor
You know what, I have a thing for the "stripe". Those are rad. And everything else is cool, as well. I like the Peavey headstocks.

When I received the bass (new), I plugged it in to the tuner and.... nothing. After a through inspection I found several bad solder joints om the v/t knob and the output jack. I reflowed all joints and that fixed everything. I put the new strings in it (I use flatwound strings) and had to use a rat tail file to open up the top bridge to accept the slightly bigger strings. The truss looked exactily the way I like it so I started tuning the lower bridge. Flawless. This bass is now the smoothest bass with great sustain an with the dual t/v knobs I can make it sound just about any way I want. Really love this bass....

"The Low Down"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I plan on keeping this bass around for some time, as its kinda unique for the price, some its quarks are very minor and can be easily and inexpensively resolved with just a few minor upgrades. But of the box its worth the price, nice tone, almost like a Warwick, and just as versatile as a Fender.
Sound
The sound quality is fair, no humming or buzzing. Its pretty bright and has a great robust tone. Although Ive replace the factory shipped strings, for strings better suited to my musical style. Ive noticed that this upgrade alone has improved the sound quality greatly.
Features
the pots on the tone controls are very quiet no static or feedback with tuning or increasing volume.
Ease of Use
pretty straight forward, plug in and play.
Quality
I would have liked the body to have been a little heavier, and maybe made with a bit more dense wood, I believe the wood used is rather absorbent and not dense and projective as I had hoped. The wood is beautiful I would have loved to see it coated some how to protect its natural beauty.
Value
under 400 decent mid grade bass guitar plus a hard case all for under 400 bucks.
Manufacturer Support
Dont know?
The Wow Factor
Ive been complimented many times on how beautiful the bass looks, and by adding a set of DR Black Beauties really accented the bass well and compliments the black hardware very nicely. People have stated that it looks like Im playing with no strings and are mezmorized when they get a closer look and see that Im actually on black strings, very hot.

I expect to keep this bass till I wear the neck off it. If someone stole it, I would be forced to hunt them down to the ends of the Earth and deal with them EXTREMELY HARSHLY. Seriously though, I would not hesitate to replace this bass with an identical model.......
Sound
Clean and clear. This bass is a complete sound canvas and the electronics are the strongest I have used in years. I have literally had to drop my Master volume by 50% and I still get response from the bass that is phenomenal

"You Gotta Love It!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
The Peavey Grind 4 gets very high marks in terms of overall good quality & at a low price. And whether it's going to be your only bass or an addition to your existing collection, whatever your level of experience, it's worth the purchase!
Sound
Beautiful sound & superb sustain from this bass! And the two passive humbucking pickups provide an impressive amount of control over the tonal output one can get out of this bass.
Features
Excellent craftsmanship for a bass in this price range. The use of Mahogany, Maple, and Imbuya wood materials coupled with the through-neck design produce a wonderful sound. And the wood on the body is natural, with no stains or laquer finish, so it won't be subjected to scratches or wear over time.
Quality
For the price it's being offered for, definitely a resounding "10" in terms of quality!
Value
Definitely worth more than its selling price, but don't tell Peavey that. ;-)
Manufacturer Support

The Wow Factor
I wouldn't say it has sex appeal (unless you have some kind of kinky fetish for musical instruments), but it definitely has an aesthetic appeal. It's a great-looking bass!

It is a very versatile instrument in all fields. Get it.
Sound
There's a lot of feeling in the sound. It is incredible for the low price. Jazz, rock, funk, or anything else can be played on this bass. You will not be disapointed.
Features
Good for poping. Does not come with instructions for the knobs
Quality
Looks cool, sounds cool, doesn't fall apart. What else is there?
Value
Many basses cost easily 5 times this one and look, sound, and feel the same. It will be a good investment.

"Great Bass, but be careful! (Dont trust the pictures)"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Even with the finish being the way it is, the fretwork, crackly knobs... If I sat here and nit-picked it to death, I would still keep it I think (Unless I could get a free replacement with a nicer finish) All in all, it's a good instrument for the money.
Sound
The tone is warm and fat, but it is kinda limited. If your amp has an EQ onboard, or if you have an EQ pedal, this should not be an issue. The passive electronics are noiseless so far, but I did notice some shoddy volume knobs. Does it have an expressive sound?? Well, that all depends on your playing style, but yes, it does respond differently to different playing styles. Compared to my other bass, (an active Ibanez SRX), the NTB can hold it's own but like I said, it is somewhat limited. So far i've run it straight into my Behringer BX1200, as well as through a Digitech BP200. Sounds really good through either.
Features
I purchased this bass with the "Free" hardshell case (which actually costed 20.00, not FREE) - but even at that, this is an exceptional value. Neck through design, dual humbuckers, string through and simple passive electronics are the main features of this bass. If there were anything at all I would change about my NTB 4, it would have to be better quality control knobs/pots, but my biggest gripe is the finish on mine!
Quality
This is where things get a little rough. Overall, the build quality of the instrument was less than expected, but not horrible, and definitely nothing I can't live with. The fretwork had a few burrs, but were easily fixed. The main gripe is that I was expecting a higher quality finish than what I got. Compaired to all the other examples i've seen, my NTB 4 has NO distinguishable grain or pattern. Extremely plain compaired to the pictures!!! - I think mine may be a fluke though... every other one I have seen has much nicer wood grain.
Value
problems aside, this bass is one of the best values out there for a neck-through instrument.
Manufacturer Support
So far, the only encounter with support that i've had is through the Peavey user forum. Mon-Friday, they seem to be on top of things and get you an answer fairly quick. The only "Need" i've had so far in support was with dealing with the wood finish of my particular bass. Nothing mechanical.
The Wow Factor
The sex appeal of the NTB is strong, and all the pictures that are available of the NTB makes your mouth water... BUT BE CAREFUL. I bought mine without seeing it first. I thought I would get something close to the pictures i've seen.... I thought...
