I've been itching to try this little striped masterpiece for a few years - and picked it up within the same week I snagged the BE-OD. After watching Mr. Thorn & Mr. McKnight's reviews (as well as a plethora of others'!), I decided to wait no longer. I don't know about any other tone chasers, but there is a eureka moment when one adds a piece of gear that, not only looks nice, and sounds great, but also helps you achieve a tone you were chasing...It is a great feeling. I write a lot of music for a lot of instruments - and like to have different tones for different L/R guitar configurations. I'm pleased with every little nuance that this 5150OD produces. From the noise gate, to the boost function (I personally run a tube screamer set at ZERO prior to this guy for a little bite). I really didn't know over the maturation of my playing styles/tone changes that I was seeking a "brown sound" - in fact, up until a few years ago, I didn't even know how to achieve it. This pedal, while still a pedal, gets really really close. Anything from VH to metal - it does it well. Very responsive. I have it next to a Friedman BE-OD, and they both do such god jobs, similar, but different - I'm not even about to pick one over the other, despite a few reviewers doing just that! To each their own, though. I enjoyed the tone and versatility so much, in fact (and I'm sure zZounds AND Mr. Van Halen would appreciate, haha) that I had to pick up an EVH 5150 amp...just after about an hour of ripping! Seriously, no Van Halen fan should be without this little box in their arsenal, and if you are even slightly considering snagging one, I don't feel that it would be a regrettable purchase. I'm very satisfied!

I Diddnt have the money for a high gain amp... I got this and a year later I can tell you you can put this puppy in front of or in the fx loop and make a useable tone. It kills. Its brutal. The noise gate works well. It can be a little evasive when cranked but used well it tightens stuff up nicely. I run it through the front of a clean amp into a palasades od kinda set up like a clean boost. It does what it says it does. If. Your in a pinch and need a modern metal/ classic rock distortion. Get it. You wont regret it.

I usually don't buy pedals of this price because I'm on a budget so I've had to deal with the multiunit pedals but I took a chance and so glad I did. This pedal is a amp in a box and is the best by far. I've used I have done away with my boss me25 and digitech units and I run this along with my delay and phase and my lord, I love it. If your just a little wondering about this go ahead and get it u won't be disappointed. I love this badboy

Bought this last week, so disappointed. I own EVH amps and cabinets.. trying to create a mini rig with Quilter Pro Block 200 and this pedal. The pedal when it works appears to be sound close to the amp (minus the AMP harmonics) its close and for a portable rig that's ok... ; the issue is the quality of the pots under the knobs, they stick, and don't work well in a sweep. I have never had an issue w/ my Boss pedals, Amps even Boss Vocal pedal. Who does the quality control for this ? Where is this built.. it does not say... so assume Asian-Pacific region.. and sub-par components. I have older MXR 10 band eq built like a tank... 10 years old an still kranking... Anyway gonna try to swap with a new one in the hope this is a one off quality issue. Doubtful as there are 5 knobs and 3 have the potentiometer issue. Plus it keeps cutting in and out... hook up Boss Blues driver same setup crystal (as a blues driver gets) clear...
