"Just Plain Amazing! "

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have had this console for 5 years now and couldn't be happier. I've used it for live events all over the place before giving it a permanent home as the centerpiece of my studio. I have gotten so many comments from bands, saying that was the best they'd ever sounded live; I'd like to take a little credit, but I know that this mixer is doing the bulk of the work for me. The Onyx pre's are just amazing. Unbelievably quite and crystal clear. A lot og outboard pre amps don't even compare to the quality. More often than not I find myself by passing other preamps to go directly to the board for a lower noise floor. And the routine goes options are endless. It's perfect for studios because it has DB25 connectors on the back which allow you to run direct from console to ADA without having to sacrifice your channel inserts. A very well thought out board. It's definitely up in the league of professional mixers.

Shipping was very prompt. The mixer has a very logical layout and is very easy to use. I bought it to replace my older SR vlz pro 32 channel mixer and I am impressed. I especially like the high and low midrange parametric eq's, and the long faders. It's more versatile and better sound than my old mixer. It did not come with an owners manual but so far, I haven't needed one. This is a very straight forward live mixing console. It is very easy to use, and has most of the features that one needs for professional results. Some of my audio friends wish it had firewire out for recording but I don't care about that. I mainly want a solid mixer for Live Sound and this is a good one for medium size venues, and the price is right.

Ease of Use
if you are use to Mackie's world of signal routing, then you'll be right at home
Quality
ok - this is my 3rd Mackie mixer to have the main buss go out, or part of the main buss. In this case, after 3 months in my basement studio, no extreme humidty or any abuse, the mains cut in and out. mackie's solution ? Clean the contacts of the main fader. But on smaller 16 & 12 channel mixers I have had the whole buss go out, poof. These are all on models built in ROC, not the old stuff from Washington State. But either way I am done with Mackie mixers after this. I now monitor out of one of my aux send pairs. Ridiculous.
