Many years.....
Sound
I was mixing my tracks with some Bose Noise reduction headphones which were doing a great job for awhile but it kinda sucks when your trying to play with headphones. I bought these on the blowout for a $100 a piece and let me tell you they are worth every penny. TRS jacks are nice and I like using the RCA plug ins to connect my IPOD to. Nice highs and mids. I haven't had the chance to get the bass bumping.

TRS plug ins RCA plug ins I wish it had power buttons on the fronts

I do not have enough experience with reference monitors to be able to provide an expert comparative analysis. I do know good sound when I hear it. The MR5MK2II speakers have excellent balance across the entire sound spectrum. I was most impressed with the depth. Only a good quality speaker will provide that three dimensional sound that gives you the impression you're in the room with the musicians. The construction seems very solid and I love that there are many input types, so just about any cabling system will work. Neither of mine were DOA and I haven't had them long enough yet to comment on durability. It might have been nice if the power switches were on the front.

"Perfect all rounders for smaller studios."

These are awesome. I spent a half hour at the music shop playing trap music, a good simple genre for testing the lows, mids and highs on monitors. Now I was lucky enough for the music shop to have a treated room decked with dozens of monitors to test out. Of course, I knew I was looking for smaller sized montiors and focused on the 5" range. There were also 8" monitors I was able to test these against, some Yamaha, KRK, PreSonus, M-Audio and one or 2 other brands. The MR5 mkII just won the deal. I was comparing which 5" monitor sounds the closest to the larger ones, in respect to the bass, these absolutely won. Sat next to HS50s, PreSonus, KRK and M-Audio 5" monitors, these by far had the best bass and nicest highs, just really nice for the size, exactly what I wanted and actually didnt think was possibly for a speaker of this size. They sound to me like a smaller version of the HS80 by Yamaha. Why? This is because I was switching between the HS80s and the 5" monitors and the MR5 just stood out as being the closest sounding to an 8" monitor, namely the HS80s. The balance of bass, mids and lows seemed to be similar between the two. All the other 5" monitors just didn't cut the cake, they all lacked the low end, which for a small studio is important when you are mixing bass heavy tracks. Bottom line, after testing between about 6 monitor brands and finding the most similar to the HS80's, these no doubt were the no brainer. The design is awesome, they look as stunning as they sound. Very nicely designed. Bottom line, if you don't have the luxury to test these, don't worry, you will not be dissappointed. These deliver above and beyond.

Sound
These were recommended from a video producer who also does audio engineering. He explained what I would be hearing and why I'd be hearing it with monitors. I am incredibly impressed with the Mackie's. The sound is very clean without any EQ, which is what I want for editing. For pleasure listening, adding some EQ really enhances the quality. They are located on my desk, aimed at my seated position. I need to raise them about 4-6 inches to have them in the optimum position.
Quality
These are not light, as they have the amplifiers built in.
Value
Great price at Zzounds.
