this is a great multipurpose mixer. just about everyone has a mackie 1202 board and it's for good reason. the built in xdr preamps are some of the best on the market regardless of price. just the preamps alone would justify the cost and so the 4 stereo in's and all the other features are just icing on the cake. the 1202 is built like a tank, clean as digital in sound quality, packed with useful features like the mute/alt 3-4 bus button, and very reasonably priced (i got mine new for $320). i've used the board for everything from micing an acapella concert to running a dj setup for a party and it's never let me down. highly recommend the 1202 to EVERYONE cuz there isn't anyone who couldn't benefit from this versatile little mixer!

Ok Ok the XDR pre is not a Manely but my Honda ain't a Boxter and it still kicks ass. For under 4 bills what else is there!? Like a lot of folks I track vocals through a TLM 103 into a Roland 1680. I tried in vain to use the built in pre's but they are a week link. I then tried an ART Tube Pac better but still not the real deal. This unit gives you enough clean gain to back off the mic a bit and maybe even get by with no compression. I've also tried running a coincident xy pair of small condensers (Octava mc 102) about 3 feet away while singing and playing acoustic I was really impressed. If you ever felt you wanted your sound to breath a little and you don't have $2000.00 + burning a whole in your pocket go for it you will not regret it. Oh and by the way, you get cool little mixer with your 4 XDR's

Feature:
Well, this is where it lacks a bit. It has its 3-split EQ options and pan, aux parameters. But that's it. They work rock solid though. Some effect would be nice to have.

Quality:
Man, it's a Mackie. What do you expect?

Value:
This wasnt' a pricy mixer but still this is a top-of-the-line pro mixer.

Desirability:
It had sex appeal, straight up. I mean, look at it!

Sound:
Great sound quality. This is a top-notch mixer.

Ease of Use:
Very easy to understand everything there is to know about this mixer. I just packed it out it's box, and there it was. Beautiful! A very simple-to-understand mixer.

Support:
Never needed...yet.

Overall:
Allthough this is a great mixer, it lacks some valuable effects and features, but if you, like me, need a simple mixer with top-notch sound quality with enough ports, this is the mixer to buy.

When I bought this, I was REALLY short on funds but needed something to play with at home. Five years later, it still does anything I have needed from it, and since I recently moved to PC-based digital audio and MIDI home-recording, the mute/alt3-4 button has become my new best friend! Even if you have more money to burn, buy this and then pick up some other stuff also.

I've owned the 1202 vlz for about 6 years. after about 4 years the faders would not completely attenuate the signal when turned clear down. In January of 2002 apparently the power supply started going bad as it developed a hum noticable predominately in the head-phone amp. I had debated sending it in for repair and probably still will but I cannot be without a board (I do live radio broadcast with the board). I ordered the Eurorack 1604A today. we will see how that performs.

Excellent routing options for small project studio applications as well as the occassional "add-on" application to a larger setup--especially because of balanced inputs and outputs for pro situations. Great price point for this quality.
