A guitar player friend of mine got these for his kids for christmas and asked me to come buy and tune them up and check them out to see if he got a good deal. I have been a drummer for for over 25 years and owned several kits from top of the line to junk, accoustic and electronic alike. Now to get to the point it just took a little proper tuning and a blanket in the kick drum, also i added some remo rings that i brought from home (they cost under $10) to the snare and toms and the kit sounded way better. there really isn't any big need to go drop $50-150 bucks on new heads, just play the stock heads untill they wareout and replace with nice coated heads or whatever your'e preference is. My friend paid $500 and a little change for a brand new set that came with all the light duty hardware, i.e. stands, pedals, throne and beginner zildjian zbt 13" high hats, 14" crash and 18" crash/ride (he did have to buy 1 extra cymbal stand). We played for a few hours and the drums stayed in tune, and after we where done i re-set up the kit for his young children to play,i found it to be very adjustable for small children(5ish in age to adults). Over all in my opinion the review title says it all,and for the cheap price of the shell kit you can save money, buy nice cymbals and have a decent sounding kit !! the following star ratings are based on what you get for the price and my experience with ludwigs.

I got these for my daughter, who's just starting seriously playing. No doubt she'll upgrade hardware as she goes along, but I expect the shells to last until she's ready (to spend her own money) for a custom-finish set.
Sound
Not too bad straight out of the box. I'd recommend immediately replacing the top heads with something less twangy (depending on your style, maybe Remo Powerstrokes?), especially the kick. The kick drum needs a good pillow and you need to cut a hole if you'll be miking it.
Features
All the manufacturers seem to market the identical set of Chinese-made, entry-level shells & hoops with slightly varying hardware and tom mounting. The high hat & kick pedals aren't bad and the stands are addequate. The major ommission is a boom stand for the ride cymbal - I can't imagine why they don't include this. One more gripe is the tom mounts. You can't really get them closer than about 4 inches, and need to angle them quite a bit do do that.
Quality
Great for the money. No issues.
Value
When I shopped for these (late '04) they were definitely the best value. Having played them a little, I still consider them a great deal.

The Wow Factor
I got the red. They're pretty "normal" looking. But with a decent set of cymbals and some new top heads they're stage-worthy.

Lots of years of playing and some experience as sound tech.

I got my first set of Ludwigs in 1971. I must say, these are made much, MUCH better! I purchased this 5-piece set with the Planet Z 18" Crash cymbal and the 13" hi-hat cymbals. These sound great for the cost! Wouldn't expect less from Zildjian.

Been playing since 1970. No longer play professionally, but jam at home

"Ludwig Accent 5-piece"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Looks great!! The sound is amazing out of the box. And now sounds better since I replaced the snare head with an Evan and sm tom with a Remo black Ambassador. I am comparing this kit with kits I played at my local dealers and thrift stores. The Accent sounds much better to me then the $1000 kits or as good or better then a $2000 kit. You will need to spend around $150 for a nice HI-Hat if your kit is the $400 shell. so, overall I recommend this Accent 5-Piece it.

"Great for beginners and all around!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Had it for a few months. It should probably be good for years.
Sound
The Drumset is not bad. I removed the bottom heads altogether, it's easier tuning. The heads it came with weren't that great, and require muffling and lot's of tuning. Remo Pinstripes recommended and the set is great!
Features
Included everything needed. I recieved sticks and the drum key. doesnt't need much more.
Ease of Use
not hard to play. harder to manuever and includes no instruction on putting together. The cymbal stand is not good for it's position.
Quality
drums are great! made very well. Drum heads are just okay.
Value
definately worth it's price!!
Manufacturer Support
no instruction at all.
The Wow Factor
wanted it from the start. great set!!
