Overnight change in my mixes. I've used this for acoustics, bass, kick drum, vocals, lead guitars. It cleans up everything. Take the time to dial everything in and it can't be beat.

Musical Background:

I've been playing lead guitar in various bands for the last 20 years. Have a small home studio with locals bands recording.

Musical Style:

Rock, hard rock, metal, even country if you catch me on the right day. Playing currently in a hard rock band and a Texas countr

it was a pretty decent go to channel strip- for vocals, and even beefing up instruments, the fact that it died on me, and have terrible tech support, annoys me ALOT....
Sound
sounded pretty good, all the compressor was very noisy at times when "IRON" was on
Features
mic was decent, compressor and eq did its job.
Ease of Use
a channel strip is a channel strip...
Quality
very noisy compressor, and burned out after 14 months of normal studio use.
Value
500, is fair....if it lasts longer..
Manufacturer Support
zzounds gave me a non working number, then NY dealer number, then he gave me another number, then just made me call 4 different people. which lead me to an email, and no response at all....waste of time and money- shoulda stuck with ssl, or neve...

"Add Some Powerful Colour to Your Recordings - on the Front End!"

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
I believe I have said it all. It probably sounds as though I work for the company, but of course I do not. I simply believe in this product. Someday when I can spend $2-3000 on a mic preamp, I MAY find something I prefer. Till then, consider me a more than satisfied customer. Joe Meek was a trail-blazer; so is this channel strip. It serves his name well.
Sound
For those of us who have heard enough of the rather sterile digitally recorded vocals, and instruments for that matter, this marvellous piece of kit is not only a lovely change, it is a must! It offers a "colour" to all of one's recordings while retaining all of the subtle nuances of the moment. The word "warm" springs to mind, but is nowhere close to comprehensive. Clear, fat and spot-on.
Features
It has everything one needs and competes solidly with its counterparts from Presonus, dbx, and the other usual suspects. What it has the others do not is 30 dBs of headroom! And their is no better compressor on any channel strip in the price-range. The front-mounted 1/4" instrument input is a great addition for warming-up piezo pick-ups, electric guitars and even keyboards.
Quality
I have owned one since 2000 and have had no problems whatsoever. I use it in my home studio and take it with me to other studios out of preference. It has travelled well.
Value
Fantastic price-to-quality ratio.
Manufacturer Support
Owner manuals are available on-line should one find they are separated from it whilst working away from homebase. Other than that, I cannot comment.
The Wow Factor
I have enjoyed my VC6Q so much, I am purchasing a second. Brilliant piece of work.
