"JBL PRX625 the good and the bad."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Sound
They sound great, nice high and punchy lows. Only bad thing is the amps over-heat and cut off after a while. Never had issues like that with my JBL EON G2 speakers. These speakers should have been built with internal fans on the amps to keep them cool. The amp heat sink isn't good enough for long-term play.
Quality
Overall the speaker is well put together, great ergonomics, great quality sound production. There are a couple of minor issues: 1. The amplifiers over-heat and shut off after continuous play at high volume, but not even high volume where the warning indicator light is on continually. If you see the warning light flash occasionally duriing play then you would think the speaker is ok, but any kind of continuous push will cause these speakers to heat up and the amp will turn off until it cools down (not cool when you have a crowd and the sound goes out). 2. The speaker grills are fastened by really short wood screws going vertically along the sides of the speaker. Since these screws are short they tend to somehow become unscrewed and fall out. I bought one PRX625 speaker brand new out of the box and after two gigs some of the screws on the side of grill had come loose. Not a very good design to have such a short screw-in sytem to hold down heavy speaker grills. I bought the other PRX625 speaker used (but still great quality thanks to Zzounds), and it's missing most of the side screws along the speaker grills. The only thing that does save this issue is there are long allen-wrench fastened screws along the top and bottom of the grill, so there is no risk of the grill coming off even if all of the side screws fall out. But should this kind of thing be an issue for this kind of speaker???
Value
They are a bit pricey compared to Mackie, but less expensive than QSC for their comparable speakers.
The Wow Factor
They are a good looking set of speakers.
