JBL JRX118S Passive PA Subwoofer (350 Watts, 1x18")

Play hard with this high-capacity subwoofer from JBL. It delivers remarkably low levels of woofer distortion without sacrificing sensitivity.

"Compact, handy and reliable"

I suspect that these models will be all I ever need for my club dates that don't provide in house systems. Again, I am thinking of getting another set so that I can hook two to each side of my CE2000 thus running at 2 ohms and increasing my entire bass output to ~2000 watts..
Sound
Not too bad.. They seem to produce decent low end without breaking up too badly.. I run about 450 Watts to each and it doesn't seem quite enough for some of the rooms that I play... What I do get seems quality though..
Features
Though Speaker features are limited always.. I do like the fact that it at least has One Quarter inch Input as well as Speakon connections on each cabinet. I also like the concept of building 4 Ohm cabinets. It allows me to get the most out of my power amp. I could run two of these cabs in each side of my Crown CE2000 and pump out enough bass to fill any room I would need to.. What I like the most about these cabinets is their size.. Finally a Sub that will fit into my blazer SUV and still have room for plenty more!! They are definitely the smallest 18 Cabinet I have seen on the market.. At the price, I don't think you can go wrong..
Ease of Use
With a Driverack, the sound is pretty decent.. I find them quite easy and in need of only a little EQ to get a good sound.
Quality
I have had them well over a year and they have never failed once.. I take great care to not push my power amps too hard to cause clipping which will lead to the demise of just about any speaker..
Value
Well, I got a smoking deal at a Local store for $650 for the pair (that was about 1 year ago).. Now I see they are going for 439 a piece.. I though 399 was an "OK" value but for 325 a piece, that makes them a tremendous value..
Manufacturer Support
Never had to deal with JBL support.. Though my buddy has for different product, They took great care to resolve his problem in a timely manner..
The Wow Factor
It's appeal to me was the size.. Not only, I know to expect quality even from Low-end JBL product.. Part of me wants to get two more to add to the setup to increase my overall bass response.. The quality is good but when you get a roomful of people, 4 of these cabinets would push the bass through much better..

"Professional Quality In All Areas"

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Don't even consider Peavy, Mackie, Nady, Behringer, Kustom, or Yamaha speakers - JBl will blow them out of the water in all areas.
Sound
I work for a theater ad I run sound for Broadway touring shows on a regular basis. This sub can hang in there with many of the pro EAW and Meyers systems.
Features
I used a Crown XTi 2000 amp with the internal cossover set to 100hz to power these subs which gives them 800 watts in stereo. It sounded awesome.
Ease of Use
These have both NL4 Speakon and 1/4 inch connectors making them compatibel to almost any system. You don't to many pro-level cabinets with both types of connectors anymore.
Quality
Definately very high quality can hold it own with the touring shows equipment.
Value
Same class in quality of sound as $1xxx subs so it is definately worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Who knows...I havn't needed them and I probably never will.
The Wow Factor
This will be the last sub you will ever need-no matter what your genre is.

JBL JRX118S PA Sub Customer Review

Overall: 2 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

For me and the install I did less then a week. They had 8 of them.
Sound
First off I must say for the cost it's better than nothing. But who ever said it can hold up to EAW or Meyers, either has no clue or is deaf. I installed 8 of them in a bar on a budget. With in less then a week I had nothing but complaints. They wanted chest punching bass, at best they got a rumble. Against my recommendations they choose the Jrx series. The following week I installed 4 MRX 528, for about the same price minus the amp upgrade. Two blocks away I could hear nothing but bass. I would have liked to have seen them go the SRX way but money is a cost. If you want loud, tight deep bass don't touch anything less then the MRX line. JRX is a joke. Just call JBL pro and ask them. I rep told me they are glorified appliance store speakers. As far as EAW and the other line goes. To even compare them is like comparing a 747 to a Honda. True EAW or Meyers cabs are $8k + each, there is no comparison. Don't believe me, goto a concert and look what they are using then try to get the same sound from a JRX cab. If you do let me know cause you will put every national sound production company out of business.
Quality
Carpeted speakers are the worst. If you are stuck with these. Tear of the carpet and repaint them with truck bed liner. Make sure to remove the grilles, speakers and tape it up first.
Value
For the price. If you want lows, you will get lows. But don't expect thump. I would say buy 1 528. You will be much happier.
Manufacturer Support
Like I said JBL looks at them as a joke. So you are going to get what you pay for.
The Wow Factor
Other than it's size. It's just a box on the floor.

"Lots of Power = Lots of Thump"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Deep Low End...
Sound
No better buy out there. The subs do require lots of power to sound good. JBL Pro recommends doubling the RMS power.. so a minimum of 700 watts per speaker. I'm using (2) mono block amps with 1060 watts into each sub and (4) JRX115s with 1060s watts on each pair of 115s Sounds Great. Headroom galore. I thought I might need two more but the 1060 watts on each 18" sub does it. Great low end fundamentals and no clipping. These subs just cruise along with that kind of power.
Features
Compact for an 18. Neutriks and 1/4" make most hook ups easy. Heavy steel grill. Needs corner protection. I add them...
Ease of Use
Plug in and go...
Quality
Needs factory corner protection.
Value
Add lots of pwoer and they sound like subs costing 3x as much.
Manufacturer Support
I've used them in the past. Not great but not horrible..
The Wow Factor
It's JBL!
