This SR-1405 plays so well it takes my main bass spot. The pick ups are awesome and you have a choice of running active or passive. The finish is black flame maple fade to grey on top with layers of exotic tone wood underneath. The tone control with a mid frequentcy switch give you total control. In my sets, I may need a deep country clean piano tone and the next high end slap. In a matter of seconds I can change from one to the other by a number of ways. I also have a SR-1205 and the tone is naturally brighter because it is amateur all stain while the 1405 has a gloss finish and is a couple pounds heavier. The bridge is a great added feature in the Premium series. It is like separate bridge for each string. This along with the great tone, beautiful exotic woods, fast neck (with rolled frets edges), tuning stability, etc, etc, etc....make any of the SR Premium series a great choice when looking to find a new bass that will expand your playing style to new heights.

I own several Ibanez basses, this is my first disapointment. the action was set to low giving lots of fret buzz. that was an easy fix, But the finish on the front of the bass looks like it was sprayed in a place where there was a lot of coal dust, apparently they tried to make it look like figured wood. it is very uneven and splotchy. the rest of the bass looked OK. But I cant get my eyes off the front. not something to be proud of. JFH.
