This has all the basic test-loop configurations and because of its end-to-end pin-out matching allows you to test cables with different connections at each end (i.e. TRS to XLR, TS to Speakon, etc.) If you understand pinouts you can easily use this to test insert cables and other non-standard and custom cables. Includes probes making it easy to test about anything for continuity. Built like a tank and both solid and easy to use.

This thing is a tank. I recently bought out an old recording studio (I mean old) and there were many boxes of phone cables included. This tester makes quick work of sorting through problem cables and figuring out whats worth keeping and what isn't. This device is also capable of testing some non musical cables, making it more useful to have around the house. My only issue was that the battery compartment is spring loaded and I had to wedge a small piece of cardboard between the door and the battery to get a good electrical connection. However for the money I can say that the rest of the device is very sturdy and a good value.

I really have to agree with Michael Williams. It IS built like a tank, and when you pick it up it is heavy. This thing doesn’t just tell you when a cable is bad; it identifies the bad connection within the cable. I make my own cables, and this box is indispensable. You can make cables that are exactly the length you need, eliminate the viper pit of black snakes running Willy Nelly everywhere, tripping people, looking impressive, but is the source of many a head scratcher, and saving a whole lot of time and money. Really, $71.00, my question is why wouldn’t own one? They thought of everything Except RJ 12, my selfish gripe. I do a lot of telephone cables in my hobby, make all of them myself, and this would really be helpful if it had that feature. All in all a great device made greater by zZounds, and there marvelous attention to equipment needs.

I was able to test cables in most areas without changing tester. It has everything you need to test a variety of different cables using one tester.

This tester is very well built. Plug a cable into the receptacles on both sides of the device (all kinds of mixes and combinations of XLR, TRS, Speakon, DIN etc. are possible) and test all the pins in sequence, one by one, using the built-in selector switch. If there is a connection, matching numbered LEDs will light up. Makes checking mis-matched pinouts, shorted cables and lack of continuity a breeze.
