Don't know if this had anything to do with anything other than covering the gap between two units, giving it a "tight" look. But I do think it's important to note these do not come with instructions. The middle bridge holes are a little offset coming up from the bottom, but the side screws still line up. Most important if all, the FLAT screws are for the bottom. The holes are beveled to make a smooth surface. Mine slid right in and fit like a glove.

"Does NOT meet the 1U high rack space dimension!"

This rack mount option for mounting two of the GAP Pre-73's is a failure. The problem is that the Pre-73's ARE designed as a one unit tall rack space. Then when you put them in this rack holder they become .040" too thick to fit in a 1U rack space. So... the ONLY solution for me was to mount both Pre-73's in the very bottom rack space where there was an intentional air gap for cooling. Or, I could have mounted them at the very top, but I have tube gear up there that needs cooling. Do NOT buy this unit unless you are aware that it will NOT let you put the two Pre-73's in a 1U rack space. I addressed this problem with one of the national distributors and never heard back from them. What a shame. Really bad engineering for an accessory on an otherwise great preamp. So beware!

"Poorly designed accessory for a very good product."

A shame, really. The Golden Age Pre73 is a terrific preamp. I have two of them, and I use them every time I record. I was hoping to incorporate them into my portable recording rig, but after a lot of struggle and repairing one of the pres that got twisted out of shape, I now have a $40 useless chunk of metal.

Features
It is a rack kit for two Pre73s.
Ease of Use
It's simple enough to screw together, except my kit was missing 4 screws.
Quality
This thing is a failure. Its a shame because the pre73 is such a tremendous bargain. Unfortunately, when I racked my two pres, this kit managed to twist one of them and break the power switch. No fun fixing that. Also, when the pres were racked up, the entire assembly was a fraction of an inch taller than 1U rack space. Sad, really.
Value
It could work, depending on your rack set up. But for $40, it's not worth it.
Manufacturer Support
No instructions included.
The Wow Factor
Not that cosmetics matter, but the paint job on this was scuffed and scratched.
