"Comparison of Guild F512 with Guild F1512 12string guitar"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I started with a Yamaha FG180, then Martin D35, and finally settled on a Guild back in 1978 when I purchased my Guild D50. Had a Guild F412 maple for a short period but sold it to finance a trip to Europe. Guild has always been good to me.Recently wanted to buy a 12 string and a friend had a 2016 Guild F512 for sale for $3000. It’s a beast and has all the refinements one could ask for: gold tunning keys, lot of mother of pearl inlays, etc. But I didn’t like it. Felt too cumbersome. Decided to look at the less expensive F1512 but was weary of the “made in China” tag. The reviews were good, however, and I bought one. Simply beautiful- and lighter and easier to play than the F512 from 2016. And with a jumbo Guild case and LR Bragg Anthem pick up it cost me $1200 less. Simply a beautifulguitar.

I never review anything, and almost didn't review this, but I figured I want to encourage other manufacturers to work on this level of quality. This is a beautiful Chinese made, American inspected/distributed 12 string guitar by Guild. It sounds and looks as good as my HD28. Incredible guitar. Sounds huge!

I'm very happy with this guitar and Zzounds.com. The build quality is extremely good and the sound is rich, balanced and very loud. It has built in electronics and sounds great through my Marshall AC50D acoustic amp. Stays in tune and intonation is superb. It is better in tone and natural acoustic volume than a Martin D-28-12 and I think better than the Taylor 12's I've played, although doesn't play quite as easily as a Taylor. You do have to work a little harder playing the Guild F-1512, but it's no big thing for an experienced guitarist. And for the price it is an absolute steal. Get one you won't be disappointed.

Good price ... quality materials ... excellent fit and finish .... the icing on the cake? Great playability and warm but crystal clear sound. This guitar exceeded my expectations. What I expected was mediocre fit and finish and just OK materials. I was wrong and very glad to be so. I compared several other brands and was shocked to find that my Guild was better. Made in China is usually not a good thing for a guitar, but after careful observation I can declare this guitar the second best I have ever owned (#1 is a mid 70's F512 that now no longer leaves my house).

"Just arrived ... my initial thoughts"

The packaging was done well and everything arrived in perfect order. The fit and finish are first rate and I see nothing out of place or flawed. I was very surprised since these are made in China. Once I tuned it up I made a few solid strums and was gifted with a rich powerful sound that still had the delicacy I expected from such a fine instrument. Playability is light and low without any buzzing and the heft of the neck profile is hand filling and makes for easy chording. So far I am very pleased.
