I will never sell this guitar. I don't know whether or not I purchased an exceptional example of this model, but I absolutely love it and play it more than my Fender 90% of the time. But then again, I have always been a little partial to the Gibson neck probably due to my small hand size.
Sound
Great single coil sound on a genuine Gibson neck.
Features
Its simplicity is great for this old rocker who hate to mess with too many effects.
Ease of Use
You basically do not get much variance with sound, but the sound you can get is great for this priced guitar.
Quality
Its a piece of wood with a great neck which is essentially what Les Paul did with the first electrics. Granted, a more substantial body would contribute to more sustain, but it would also contribute to more strain on the back. For someone who can't hold a full blown Les Paul for a full gig because of the weight of it. The paint fades very easily, but that will allow me to custom finish it later (I have played mine for a few years now and it is faded).
Value
No contest as far as value. It is made in the U.S.A. and not Mexico or China like a certain other name brand guitar maker offering a line of similiar priced guitars..
Manufacturer Support
I have never had a problem with any Gibson guitar I have ever owned. Several friends have had problems, but they were resolved quickly
The Wow Factor
It will not knock anyone over for looks, but I have had people come up to me and comment on the sound of my "really old" Gibson. I did not tell them it was relatively new.

If you're looking for eye candy, forget it. If you want a hot sounding, easy playing, light weight rock machine for a very low price, this is it!This is probably the loudest, most resonant electric I own (unplugged). The build quality is very good, except for the finish, which is minimal to hold down the price. Even though it's marketed as a beginner's guitar, it is a professional-quality instrument. Wonderful neck; the single-coil pickup is relatively quiet; and the tone control actually makes a difference in how the guitar sounds! This is one of Gibson's better ideas.

Sound
This is an excellent buy for the money, It's a Gibson. Solid Body Sound Solid Mahogany, Set Neck what more can you ask for ? I would recommend this Guitar to any stage player from beginner to Pro. I have had several Gibson Guitars including a 61 1/2 Double Cut away Melody Maker. Love em'.
Features
It's only a single coil pick up but it delivers that Gibson sound I like and can Scream with the best of them !
Ease of Use
Feels nice in your hands,Great neck and body light weight and easy to handle for that Rock & Roll feel.
Quality
It's a GIBSON....

"If you want to develop your guitar technique and you don't think you will stop to play; when you're not too rich but not too poo"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I was choosing this guitar analysing price/quality factor. This is original american Gibson, no chinese's crafts. The only thing you can buy for similar money is Fender Telecaster made in Mexico. A Telecaster made in USA costs 3 times more than recent Gibson melody maker... It difficult to compare these guitars but now I'm saying about the price only.
Sound
The sound of this guitar is really excellent. I'm rating it "8" just because the guitar has the only single coil pick up at bridge position. I'm expecting the dual pickup version must sound deeper, but I cant test it. So the sound quality is really good and tone control gives a real possibility to achieve a variety of sounds - from heavy rock sounding to gentle, nearly bluesy or even acoustic breathe... BUT... The factory setup was good, but not perfect. So I needed to adjust it myself and you have to be more or less experienced player to make it or just need a professional assistance. I've done the following: it was needed to make a deeper slots on the nut - I didnt want to replace it- so the height of the strings above the first fret came into proper position. All the rest just a work with truss rod wrench and height of the bridge so the height of the strings went on a normal level without any buzz. Now this height is about 2.2 mm on 12-th fret; no buzz and action is lovely low. Bridge itself - in fact its not bad and intonations are alright for beginners playing rhythm and lead guitar in heavy rock or punk style. I'm playing with fingers and do not use plectrums at all. A kind of jazz or classical style, but am playing rock and bluse mostly.Playing some stuff technically difficult you can feel the wrong intonations on solo. So the only part was replaced - I've but an adjustable wrap around bridge so the intonations now are brilliant.
Features
There was a gig bag by Gibson; good one but not perfect. Thats alright for guitar bought on inexpensive price.
Ease of Use
Guitar plays fine and in fact - I'm sure this is the best guitar you can get for similar price.
Quality
Product made very well. In comparison to chinese' Epiphones Les Paul etc - its much higher then any possible top rates.
Value
Its definitely worth the money - I've paid $489, new, with a gig bag included.
Manufacturer Support
Unfortunately Gibson doesn't sell their guitars in Russia. Those you can get are being offered on ridiculous prices so I was buying this melody maker in the USA with a help of my friend.
The Wow Factor
This guitar is absolutely perfect in its simplicity! Unbelievably nice.

Gibson Melody Maker Customer Review

Sound
I just bought a 2007 2 pickup model and I'm still getting used to it, but I like the sound very much. I'm a humbucking pickup lover, but these pickups are sweet with a clear sound, but no TOO clear, e.g. Fender Tele. The neck is beautiful, after all it's made in Tennessee and feels great, like most Gibson necks. I expected a slim neck, but it's a full-sized one, yeah!!! Finish is better than expected with no flaws anywhere. A great little axe, it's light and sounds great.
Features
Well placed pickup selector switch. Tuners haven't given me any problems. A quality, well-built instrument, a keeper at a great price.
Ease of Use
I wish there were 2 volumes and 2 tones, but you can't have everything in an inexpensive American-made axe.
Quality
Overall very well crafted, very solid.
Value
Great value, sure to go up in value in the future.
Manufacturer Support
Don't know or care.

OK guitar, OK sound there is nothing great about this guitar, but I realy cant beat it up except for the price
Sound
The sound is OK but not great, I would change out the p/u
Features
Basic guitar with gibson on the head stock
Ease of Use
nice playing
Quality
OK QC but not worth the price online.
Value
This guitar is not worth the price they ask online. I can go to my local dealer and buy these for $299 any day brand new. So the $450-$500 is way over priced
Manufacturer Support
Gibson has a pretty good reputation
The Wow Factor

It has Gibson on the headstock. I bought it as a joke. If you pay five bills for this I have swamp land in Florida you will love. Any Ibanez or Epiphone for two hundred dollars puts it to shame.
Sound
A cheap single coil pickup at the bridge. Sound? Please give me a stick I'll kill it. I give it a 5 just because it produces noise.
Features
Volume and tone knobs.
Quality
A chuck of wood, a neck, strings. I could build this in my garage and do better. Tuners are junk.
Value
A Danelectro puts it to shame.
Manufacturer Support
Please. Gibson? I'd bet thier repair plant is bigger than their manufacturing plant.
The Wow Factor
No sex.

It's hard to describe "The sound", "The Feel" of a fine musical Instrument. It's GOOD.
Sound
Sounds as good as my Gibson Classic "57's in my Epiphone Studio.

Ease of Use
The neck feels great even for my small fingers.
Quality
Solid Guitar. No mechanical or cosmetic imperfections.
Value
The best Quality, and Sound, at a bargain Price.
