I love the way this bass looks. The passive setup is fine, the pickups are hot enough, and give that old grind that we have learned to love about Gibson basses. I don't here any noise out of the pickups, I would not hesitate to take into the studio. Low B was really hot, I adjusted the pickups on that side and got it sounding perfect, good distinctive low B sound. I could feel the fret edges when it first came in, not bad but noticeable. I left it on a stand a few days and it seems to have for the most part cured itself of that, "moisture rejuvenating the board maybe. Actually played a full night with it last night, it was an absolute joy to play. 24 frets, so you have a complete extra octave to mess with and the way the body is formed you can reach all the frets. You have push/pull knobs to split your pick up coils to single coil if your into that. If you are use to a 4 string and want to take the plunge to a 5, this is the one. I can jump back and forth to my 4 string and not feel much difference in the finger stretch. If your tired of putting a heavy bass on your shoulder this one weighs around 8 lbs. The price, a real Gibson for around a grande,, you can't beat it. This is one of the best investments I have made.
