"Nothing else compares"

This Genz Benz Contour 500 with 1-15" is one hard ass-kicking mother. Pre-amp section is the wildest thing I've ever encountered. Makes my bass sound like an entirely new instrument, giving me a certain freedom I haven't experienced in years. The EQ section sets any tone there is to be had on Earth. I like a growl. Man, does thing thing growl! It can also cut like a knife. The mid ranges are so adjustable. Power to spare, lightweight, excellent sounding ... what else would one want in a combo bass amp? It is the ultimate solution.

"Genz Benz Contour 500 combo"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Took delivery of this about a month ago, at a quite remarkable price. This combo is powerful, deep, and had a wide (and useful) tonal range. There are a couple of issues with mine. Firstly, mine started to distort, and then it cut out entirely. I removed the head, and checked inside the amp. Having made sure that all the connectors were secure, I gave it a play at increasing volume. Perfect. Once I re-installed the head into the combo, the original issue started to recur. I guess there is problem with a loose connection and resonances. Secondly, I wish the cable from the cab to the head was longer, as it would enable me to detach the head and place it away from the cab. I am not convinced of the need for a top carry strap: two side handles might be better. Now I come to the main point about this combo. If you find this at a good price, consider what you are getting for the money. In the case of the 210, I think the speakers are similar if not identical to the 210 Focus range. In other words, good quality. I think the Contour extension cabs are almost identical to the Focus cabs but significantly cheaper. Once you factor this in, you can get a precise idea of what the detachable 500w into 4ohm head costs...VERY LITTLE. It is worth buying this combo for the head alone. In fact, buy two. You then have an extension cab, and a back-up head. When I removed the head, it was fully encased too. Impressive.
