I have had it in my rack for about 6 months. The pre-amp is very neutral which is why I bought it. All vocals sound great through this unit irrespective of the mic. Once you get to know how each feature works and responds, it is virtuly impossible to get a less than perfect vocal take irrespective of the genre or sex. Also handy for acoustic guitars and bass.

The features I think make this a better choice than anything in it's price range. I would have preferred tubes, but to be honest the TubeSound is very responsive and sounds great. The de-esser works well.

Built like a brick. I have no problem with the 'Made in China' lable. This thing is well constructed! Looks good too!

If ou want to knit-pick, the silver face would have been better another colour. That's just a personal thing though. So much kit is silver now days. It would have had a better identity if it was a different colour.

Pre amp is nice, must be care full not to overload. Dont use the vintage harmonics on vox, use it on bass, and heavy electric gits...there it sounds awsome. Have used it on RnB vocals, Rappers and rockers...sounds great on them all. The compressors is weak, not enuff control, so i insert an FMR RNC.

Would like to be able to switch VU from input to output. Tube sound is subtle, but useful..Vintage harmonics more hate it or luv it. The desser is not to heavy handed, useful on a silibant vocalist.

Very sturdy, hard piece, get pretty darn HOT tho

though i try not to add any processing at tracking stage, the VMPro gives you the flexibility to do just that with a fantastically transparent pre, or to mangle the sound as much as you like. the highlight for me is the de-esser which is so easy to use and sounds very effective and again transparent. the only downside is the expander which does seem to artefact the sound somewhat and so i would be loathed to use at tracking, but might be worth looking at for mixdown when it could be good for clearing up headphone spill or rogue click tracks. fantastic product.

there is a digital card option, which may be of use to users with lower quality A/D converters. the latency free monitoring is also quite useful though again, only if latency is already an issue in your system.

usual focusrite build quality

v good value and some of the focusrite packages almost make it rude not to buy one.

I upgraded from a "voicemaster" It was constructed in the U.K. and it souned absolutely fantastic. I traded it in for a "voicemaster Pro" which sounds very brittle and not nearly as responsive. It is constructed in P.R.C. (China) and I suspect the electronics are inferior.

Vintage Harmonics Processor misses the mark of imitating an undecoded Dolby A process. It s@@ks. Also, there is no mention of the digital ouput card and how to get one etc.

My voicemaster pro is built in China. The knobs are not lined up perfectly, and the chassis feels really cheap. There are coemetic blemishes

i've used many such mono channel strip preamp/compressor/EQ units from joemeek to presonus to the SPL channel one and the voicemaster pro sits comfortably at slightly better than middle range. someone said it lacks 'character'...i reiterate this. but it's hard to find something wrong with it also. it's the "perfected radioshack quality".

everything as it is advertised, works as advertised, but the vintage tube emulation needs come further engineering attention.

someone had mentioned that it has inferior electronics because it is made in china. mine is also made in chine, i believe they are now all made in the p.r.c. thus the drop in price and increase in availability to the average home studio musician. but where it is made does not necessarily determine the quality of its electronics because focusrite still maintains strict quality control no matter where it is manufactured. so i highly doubt that 'made in china' is the cause for some of its unappealing aspects. it is more likely that focusrite designed it to be a "budget" product as a marketing strategy, like almost every other company in existance today.
