I could not be more surprised at this guitar! I got it on a whim because it said it had hotter pickups and less hum. This baby has no hum at all and the pickups are so good I can't. see myself replacing them with texas specials which was my initial plan. They are loud and versatile. They can twang or thump which is what Texas specials excell in. The craftsmanship is flawless and the glossed maple fret board plays as good as any MIA telecaster. Only gripe is the weight which I have learned to deal with. Plus all telecssters and asats are heavy. It contributes to the tone. I have bought a PRS SE Tremonti, an Epi LP Ultra Pro, an MIM deluxe players strat and this in 2012. This one truly is the best of the. bunch!

I bought the arctic white one. What a beautiful Telecaster. Flawless craftmanship. It's every bit as nice as my $1,400 american made Stratocaster. And it was only $599.00. I am 63 years old and been playing for over 50 years. I have owned dozens of top name brand guitars and this Telecaster is awesome. It did require some setup to my preferences, different strings, string nut, truss rod and saddle adjustment but thats no problem, I do that to all of my guitars. I like a low, smooth, slippery action. It's a fast little screaming Telecaster. I couldn't be anymore happier with this purchase. zZounds is the best for fast, friendly service.

"Telecasters are great guitars!"

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I treat my guitars very well. I expect this guitar to last indefinitely. I did a playoff between this and a standard Epiphone Les Paul. This fit me better and was more suited to playing the blues.
Sound
Classic Telecaster Sound!
Features
This a simple Telecaster as most are and how Leo Fender intended them to be. I changed the white pickguard out for a black-white-black pickguard. It looks great. Matches the rest of my black electric guitars.
Ease of Use
Great, easy to play.
Quality
I bought this "blemished" guitar for $100 off list. The blemish is a small, barely noticable discolored edge of the fret board. Other than that blemish the guitar is perfect. I am happy with my purchase.
Value
This a great guitar for the money. The $100 I got off this one because of the blemish was a good decision.
Manufacturer Support
Did not have to deal with Fender regarding this guitar. I dealt with them on my American Strat. They were great.
The Wow Factor
I bought this to round out my electric guitar collection. I also have an American HSS Strat and a Sheraton.

For the money, the Fender Standard Telecaster is the nicest guitar I've purchased. The neck is absolutely beautiful. Silky smooth satin finish on the back and high gloss on the fingerboard makes it feel like your fretting on glass. The stock pickups sound surprisingly great. I've played everything from Blues to Metal on mine and it's handled everything I've thrown at it. Nice tight crunchy rhythms and crystal clear twangy leads. The bridge pickup is as hot as the humbucker on my Gibson SG Special. Speaking of the Gibson SG, it came with razor sharp fret ends which I had to file smooth. This MIM Fender came with lovely rolled fret ends. Are they as perfect as an American model? Not quite. But for half the price you absolutely can't beat it. The Lake Placid Blue finish is beautiful and flawless. The only upgrades I've done and plan to do are the addition of strap locks and I swapped the stock tuners for Fender locking tuners. There's nothing wrong with the stock tuners, but the Schaller designed locking tuners just function better. Overall this is a fantastic guitar for little money. Don't let the fact that it's made in Mexico dissuade you. It plays better than the Gibson USA SG I own and was a hundred dollars cheaper.

"The Mexican Fender Standard Tele"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I feel that this Tele will be with me for many, many years to come.
Sound
Craftmanship and quality is superb. Playability is tremendous. Plays extremely well and the neck is just awesome. Fast and even. The sound is amazing. Even volume throughout. No drop outs at any position. It's all balanced. The tones are incredible. Stays in tune very well. When I received mine I took it out of the box (which was packaged very secure, I tuned it then checked the intonation and string heights and neck and everything was perfect. I've owned many guitars in my time and all of them made in all countries and this Tele is right at the top of the list as far as how it's made, the finish, the set up, the quality, and the sound. I play Country / Southern Gospel semi professionally and I'm playing through a Peavey ValveKing 112 all tube amp. The combination of the two are very satisfying. I use the clean channel and a touch of analog delay and I get that classic country twang.
Features
All the components are made extremely well. While many change out the pickups and some even the pots and wiring, I see no need to change anything. The only thing I would consider changing would be the pickguard. From the original which is perfectly fine to a Pearloid. And this would only be a personal preference appearance decision. I did order the SKB Fender Molded Hard Shell case. The Gig Bag is perfectly fine but I like the added protection that the Hard Shell Case provides.
Ease of Use
Plays extremely well and the controls are easily accessible.
Quality
Great quality. Superb craftsmanship.
Value
For the money this Tele is a tremendous value. I personally don't see paying the extra for the American made.
Manufacturer Support
Have not needed support from Fender.
The Wow Factor
I love the Brown Sunburst. And I love the Tinted Maple Neck.

Received it in less than two days. WOW!!! is all I can say. I have been a professional musician for almost 50 years and have never played anything as smooth as this. I have a Gretsch Double F hole hollow body and it is tops but, this tele has it all. Straight out of the "cold" box after getting it warm I tunes it slightly and began playing away. I run mine through a Fender FX212R and sounds awesome. Thank-you zZounds for making this available at such a low price. Sounds as good as American made in my estimation. VERY PLEASED!!!!!!

I've had this standard tele for 3 weeks now, and I have yet to see an imperfection in the build, materials, or paint job. This guitar is solid. The stock pickups are very nice. In the future I may experiment with Lindy Fralin's or such, but for now, these are just fine. The maple neck is smooth and easy to play, and the candy apple red paint is luscious. I play it through a Fender Super Champ x2 and the combination is really nice.

This guitar kicks ass. That being said it is not an American Standard, and if you can get over that fact you can get a nice guitar pretty cheap. I have an American Standard and I bought this to turn into a "hot rod". The standard Telecaster is the perfect platform for creating your dream Telecaster. The stock pickups are decent. Nothing special but not terrible. After changing the bridge to a Dimarzio Fast Track 2 and tthe neck to a Rio Grande Dirty Harry, this is a badass axe! The hardware is high quality and the neck feels great. The paint on my Lake Placid Blue Tele is PERFECT- overall the craftsmanship is on par with my American Standard. The ONLY drawback for me is the neck having 21 instead of 22 frets, but that is it. The MIM Tele is competing for the starting job with my American Standard - And that is saying a lot. The guitar did take a bit of tinkering to get the action just right, but that will be a personal thing for every guitarist. This was my 4th guitar purchase from zZounds and they have all been perfect. Can't say enough. If you are on the fence this guitar kicks ass (especially for the dollar amount) and zZounds will do you right.

I bought this 5 months ago. The pickups were OK, but I put a Grease Bucket Circuit on them and they sounded a lot better. The finish and setup on this guitar out of the Box was exceptional. It plays very nicely. I replaced the Bridge with a Vintage Bridge and put the original Bridge back on it. Installed Locking Tuners and Im very happy with this Guitar. I did buy a set of TV Jones Starwood Telecaster pickups on it and this is my Favorite guitar out of 4. Made in Mexico is a great well made Guitar!

"Excellent Guitar - Great Value"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I won't say that these guitars are "better" or even "as good as" American made, expensive Fender models. I will say, however, that to my ears, they are sonically the equal - if a little different- than the $$$$ models. Moreover, the fit and finish are certainly satisfactory to my personal evaluation.Ive owned American made Teles and Strats. They were a joy to play. So is this one.A truly great value in my book. Just don't get worked-up about where its made. If you think about it, what difference does it make where they're made?

I find after buying this guitar blemished in Lake Placid blue for $409, a truly great value. Also a pretty cool color, it seems to be a well built instrument, and to be honest, I can't find the blemish anywhere! It definitely sounds like a Tele, and is going to be an excellent backup for my Strat. After a few hours of playing, I like my strat better, but the strat is an American made, so it should play better. I like this tele well enough however that I would buy another at full price, if I had not found this one for $409!

I ordered a blemished candy apple red telecaster and saved $100.00. First the bad: The fret ends were sticking out the sides of the neck and were sharp enough to make playing very unpleasant. I took the guitar to my local Luthier and he filed down the fret ends and did a great setup on the guitar. Now the good: After the setup the guitar has incredibly low action without fret buzz. The neck wood is slightly figured and beautiful. I love the candy apple red color. The guitar stays in tune and tone is very good. I especially love the bridge pickup because it has a lot more guts than a stratocaster bridge pickup. The neck pickup is smooth and jazzy sounding and both pickups together have a pleasant bell like chime. All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase and I accepted the fret end problem since I bought a blemished guitar.

I spent a lot of time researching the MIM Tele before ordering one. The reviews convinced me to get one. When mine arrived, I unpacked it, looked at it, and noticed right away that the tone/volume/switch mounting plate was missing the bottom screw, and the hole drilling for that screw was very offset. Additionally, there was the beginning of a drilling very visible just outside of the bottom of the mounting plate. I immediately repacked it and shipped it back. I simply cannot imagine how QC could have missed such a glaring defect. This was the second Fender model in a row that I have had to send back because of defects. I totally blame those problems on Fender QC, I have never had anything but great service from ZZOUNDS.

I bought my first telecaster from zZounds in 2010 and I believe it is a 2009 model- I have to check the serial number- back then the fret board had a satin finish. I bought another new telecaster last year in 2017 but actually received a telecaster with a 2015 year of production according to the serial number! Very strange. The 2015 has a gloss fret board. I am keeping the 009 strings on the 2015 model but had changed the 2009 telecaster from 009 to 10's. The pickups are hot and have a high output. I do my own set ups involving straightening the neck using the truss rod and setting the saddles up for intonation and action height which is quite a bit of work and takes me a few weeks as I constantly re-adjust things after playing the guitar and letting the guitar sit for a few days. I believe these telecasters offer the best value for the money, it is very difficult to get a better guitar for the price. The telecastser sounds very clear and powerful and plays ok. Its a winner.

I play in a variety/cover band. I play a American deluxe tele. I love that guitar. One night I dropped it. Oh no!! Nothing happened to it but it got me thinking I don't have a back up if something was to happen to my Deluxe. Taking I don't have a back up just a Takamine acustic I play on a few songs. So I thought I get a just in case back up tele. The standard was ideal since I was not going to shell out a extra grand i have laying around anytime soon.Lol but I purchased the white tele and swapped out the pick guard for a single ply back one. I decided to try it on a few songs one night. All I did prior to that night was swop out the pick guard and strings. I fell in love with it. Let's just say my Deluxe had a break the rest of the night. it is a regular on stage with me now. No complaint about it. It might say Made in Mexico on the back but she says Fender in the front and oh Lord shes everybit a classic fender.

"GET IT!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Before I purchased this guitar, everyone had told me to get a Strat instead, and now months later I'm glad I ignored all of them because I couldn't be happier with this guitar! I'll never sell this guitar, it has everything I'm looking for
Sound
It sounds phenomenal, especially compared to other guitars I had compared it to before purchasing. The neck pickup is more of a classic clean fender sound, the bridge has the distinct telecaster twang is great for playing country (i don't listen to country personally, so I use it for oldies). The middle is more of a bright full sound, and is my favorite, as it goes with just about any song. Just remember when using distortion, be sure to turn down the tone knob a bit as the single coil pickups have a sharper sound than humbuckers. For the money, this is the absolute best bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned. People will tell you that it can't do heavy rock or metal, but all you have to do is adjust the tone knob and use either the neck or middle pickup and you're fine, plus that's what pedals are for!
Features
If you're looking for a guitar with a ton of features, this isn't it. However, it's more than adequate. 2 single coil pickups, 3-way pickup selector switch, tone and volume knob, Fender Super 250L strings (which make playing this guitar a breeze), and maple neck. That's really all you need, especially if you're a new guitarist, like me. It did come with a gig bag, but you'll want to buy a real guitar case or a guitar stand so it doesn't go out of tune.
Ease of Use
With only a 3-way pickup selector switch and one tone knob, it won't take long to find the sound you're looking for. If you're into heavy rock, definitely get a distortion or metal pedal. The guitar is a bit on the heavy side(like a Les Paul), so that's something to be aware of.
Quality
This guitar is absolutely solid, finish is great- i got it in lake placid blue, tuners are good, as long as you don't leave it in the gig bag and throw it around, and I wouldn't worry about it's reliability, as they've only been making this guitar for 60 years.
Value
Best guitar for the price, it sounds like a thousand dollar guitar. Oh and by the way, I bought the standard made in Mexico telecaster too!
Manufacturer Support
Good experience, fast shipping, and product was exactly as described
The Wow Factor
It's the oldest electric guitar still in production so it doesn't have a ton of features, or fancy finishes or designs. However, it's retro, classy and looks cool as hell, so there!

"Mexican Telecaster w/maple neck"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Okay let me start off with the fact I have used zZounds before, almost 13 yrs ago to start up a home studio. I like their prices and the fact they deliver free most any purchase makes it a big deal to me because the nearest music store is over 50 miles away. That, and the fact that I don't get to "try out" anything first, leaves me to do research based on reviews of the products on several web-sites. So that stated, this purchase was part of a larger order that I will review piece by piece. Hopefully my opinions and research will be as helpful as those I have found here. Mexican Fender Telecaster w/maple neck: This being the most expensive of the 3 guitars I got I expected this one to be the best. Well I just got burned by the photos of this one, I bought a similar tele from zZounds about 13 yrs ago, the WHOLE neck was like dipped into the gloss, This one only has the gloss on the fingerboard (at LEAST) but the back of the neck is like raw wood! What's the DEAL?!? BIG disappointment! Out of the box it was way outta tune, on my other guitars there was a tag/sticker stating which inspector checked and set-up by... but this one has none. Hmmm, tuned it up, stretched the strings a little and rechecked... strings feel like 09s and I play 10s. The pickups are hot! Oh and you can get that "Tele Twang" outta this cookie! I'm seriously thinking of a can of Krylon clear for the back of the neck... May as well be playing a 2by4.... because of the lack of gloss this review reflects it in the "ease of use", "Quality" , "Value" and "Overall" ratings... still keeping it, but really disappointed.
