Stunning right out of the box, great tone and a great playing guitar. I almost bought the MIM version after playing it the music store, but went American and am glad I did. It sounds better than the MIM and the neck is less lacquered which greatly helps the feel of the neck.By far this is the most versatile guitar on the market in this price range, I love it. I also love the zZounds service it gets to you quick and the payment plans are so great, thank you zZounds and Fender for a great experience, I was so worried about ordering a guitar, but it worked out perfect!

I've been playing guitar for a long time, almost 30 years. I've always wanted an American made strat with a humbucker in the bridge and with zZounds' pay as you play program I was able to get this beauty. I've always been a rock and metal player, which this guitar can deliver, but I got this one specifically to get into blues and it is just an amazing sounding guitar! There's something truly unique about the tone of a good strat. I love the maple fingerboard; it's such a smooth neck and plays so nicely. The only thing I really don't like about stratocasters is the floating trem system. Since I've never been much of a whammy guy, I just decked the trem and I don't use it and I have no tuning issues. I give this guitar 5 stars across the board. The craftsmanship is beautiful and this thing plays and sounds amazing. If you're considering an American Special, this is a great choice!

I bought this Fender American Special after trying it out in a guitar shop. I have 2 MIM strats and wanted an American model really bad. I do not regret this one bit. This guitar sounds so good. The atomic humbucker is awesome, it is heavy yet it does not sacrifice any of the beautiful clean tones Fender is known for. The other pups are Texas Specials, which also sound very good. It weighs in at 8 pounds even, according to my scale white my previous MIM strat weighed 7.2 pounds. Not much of a difference but I prefer the heavier guitars. The greasebucket circuit is a real nice touch, you can roll the tone knobs all the way down and the sound does not get muddy or blurred at all. If you are in the market for an American Stratocaster I'd say give this guitar a go.

"Nothing Like A U.S. Strat"

Great guitar! I had got mine in yesterday and it did good for the gig I played in great tone and looks this is a sweet deal! However I did have trouble putting my strings on but I'm not use to stratocasters so I won't count that against it once I changed my strings stretch them and played it for a whole it stayed in tuned and played great and the tremolo with the whammy is easy to use I don't have to push on the whammy hard to get that vibrato effect overall great guitar fender rocks!

I own a few starts and just wanted the different look to add to my collection. I am confident before purchasing a Fender guitar that the quality and performance will be excellent. Zzounds play as you pay certainly has helped me build my collection because this is the second Start I've purchased through them. There's no reason to not play a nice guitar...
