this is the first ESP I've owned.I've got a 70 J-bass I was looking to retire from certain situations, wanted a knock-around I didn't have to worry about that didn't cost too much. Was pretty much settled on one of the squires when I came across the 204.Diggin on it,just feels good to play, seriously thinking about adding the sunburst.
Sound
unless you just have to have a certain brand of pick-ups or feel the need to spend extra, don't.The stock pick ups have a warm, full sound, quite punchy, similar to Bartolinis.Assuming they are single coil I haven't had any hum problem yet, even in a club with bad electricity
Features
it is a simple, honest bass;it is what it is.It has the look and field of a P-bass been around the block a few times. It's like an old pair of jeans,comfortable,fun/easy to play.
Ease of Use
this bass really feels good.Any die hard P-bassers needing a 2nd bass, back up or like me a throw around bass should give this guy a look,it plays/sounds well and makes a 3,4,5 hour night go by easier.
Quality
with most less expensive basses issues are with neck or pickups.Pick-ups sound great,no buzz/hum yet.Neck was fine, minor adjustments.Haven't messed with the neck too much, will eventually go to a lighter gauge strings.
Value
buy one in each color.Nothing fancy here;comfortable, plays good, sounds good, what else do you need.
Manufacturer Support
no need yet.
The Wow Factor
looks and feels like an old beat up P-bass.I got the black. The only the only thing the road wear guys missed, the smoke stained off white pick guard.

I am truly happy with this Bass... ( Black, Maple) I almost cannot believe that it costs what it does. It is worth the amount asked... and the zZounds Play as You Pay plan makes it a breeze.
Sound
Very ... Vintage.. The pickups to me seem like a well rounded set that can handle any style. I see no point in changing them. I do run into a Boss effects processor and a Hartke amp..
Features
Simply it is the finish. Looks great, like an old sweater or pair of levi jeans.. Just feels right.
Ease of Use
1 Volume, 1 Volume, 1 Tone. EASY. I do not need Active pickups to rock this bass.
Quality
Veatnam made. I am not upset with the build quality. All of the components seem well made. Good Tuners, Neck is nice, Setup from the box was ok, of course you should have it setup though. Pickguard is 3 ply.
Value
VS. a Cheaper Bass, Get this One. Versus a Mexican Fender, Get this one. It would be foolish to say this is better that an American Fender, But it is close.
Manufacturer Support
I have an ESP LTD EC 400ATS that IS BETTER than A Les Paul Standard. Period. I have never had ANY issues.. I Emailed ESP for a replacement Input Jack due to my fault and they sent it to me free of charge. (I DID REGISTER PRODUCT THOUGH)
The Wow Factor

"Buy 2."

Ive told others this bass is great, highly recommend it. No flaws. Seriously, not just saying that.
Sound
Out of the box sounded like it already had compression on it. I am a not too aggressive pick player (years of guitar playing)and this bass responds well to that, but a very smooth sound with finger-style playing as well. I run this through a Big Muff pi and a Tech21 SansAmp bass DI through an Ampeg and this being passive works well. Bridge pickup is hot and incredibly neutral, sounds great dry or with my Big Muff. Neck pickup is warm and very tonal. I prefer to play it 90% neck (there is a noticeable dB increase from 90% to 100%)and 15% bridge pickup for my clean sounds and the exact opposite for dirtier songs. Ive recorded direct and mic'ed and both sound amazing. have gigged with it and it is my new work horse from now on, hands down. The American active p-bass I bought this to supplement has a nice little layer of dust on it now..
Features
I love that this bass sounds active but is completely passive, so I don't need to worry about unplugging it in the studio every time i set it down. very expressive volume pots and tone pot. nice roll-off on all three for blending pickups and tones.
Ease of Use
Its a bass-tune it and play it. The combination of pickups, great volume pots and tone knob make this for very blendable and usable tones.
Quality
Incredibly solid. I can beat the crap out of this thing, and, not only am I not worried about scratching it, it stays in tune and shrugs it off. I would, and will, be buying another one. There are only 2 steps to this bass- 1.) Buy it. 2.) Spend a couple dollars (or a couple hours yourself) setting it up for whatever tuning you prefer. Thats it.
Value
Buy 2. It has a great weight, great look, great feel, incredible range of sound for whatever your style, seriously. Play aggressive rock? That's fine. Play R&B soul? That's fine too. Playing trash polka? How dare you, but could probably be done.

The Wow Factor
