I might be encouraged to take a look at the newer B404 coming out by ESP, just to see if the Bartolini pickups and preamp make any substantial difference. Still wouldn't get rid of this one, but I might trade in my old backup.......
Sound
Mine has the ESP pickups, and I find them to be about as hot as some of the EMG-HZ's I have played. I had an NS2000 Spector, very similar features, but I like the ESP better. Tone shaping is much easier on the ESP.
Features
The 3-band EQ is very sensitive, and the neck-thru design gives it great sustain. A push-pull knob to switch between active and passive modes would be a nice addition, and easier battery access would be nice as well.
Quality
I can't think of a thing bad to say about the quality, mine was flawless when it came from the factory. I never gig without a backup, but this one has never let me down, even playing down on the beach in a very heavy moisture situation.
Manufacturer Support
E-mailed them with a tech question, and they responded in about 4 days. A little slow, but if I had really needed an answer, I would have called them instead.
The Wow Factor
The look and feel are absolutely outstanding. The gloss finish is flawless, the gold hardware is shiny against the flamed maple top, and the jumbo frets and smooth neck make for great action. It just fits me well.
