The pictures didn't do the guitar justice. Great finish. Some minor setup done and it plays and sounds like the Gibson for a lot less. The burst bucker Pro pickup have an exceptional sound and the coil tapping is an added bonus. If you are looking at the Gibson model, you should really consider this one first. The extra money you would have spent on the Gibson, you could purchase a new Orange head and cabinet, (which by the way sound incredible when matched up with this guitar). The Service from Zzounds was exceptional as well. You guys always make my purchases with no hassles and left me guilt free from "buyer's remorse". I have purchased my acoustic (Epiphone EJ-200) and my Les Paul from Zzounds. Not once have I had any issues with the equipment or the service. Great job guys! Keep it up!!

Ordered on Thursday, had it on Monday. I wasn't sure what to expect with a Dirty Lemon color, looking online it looked like a yellowish body with a reddish brown burst on the edge, what I got was this beautiful, immaculate Les Paul in this really awesome aged amber that looks like it has been gracefully yellowed with age, and had so much flame in the maple veneer top that I swear it could be taken for an actual Gibson. This was very well set up right out of the box and after I changed strings to my preferred GHS Boomers 10-46 it was ready to sing like only a great Paul can.

I purchased this guitar because I was in the mood to a Les Paul but not enough to make a larger investment. I have many instruments and have owned some premium America guitars. I am a full time player and it's all I have ever done and I have backed up icons in every style of music. I mention all this so you know that this is my life and I know guitars very well, I own close to 40 presently, not as a collector but as tools I use in my work. You cannot make a wiser investment if you are looking for a Les Paul and want to spend $1000 or less. The new Epi Proburst pickups are winners and they split very well. They are every bit as good as Duncan Almico Pro 2, Gibson 57 Classic, or Dimarzio PAF Plus. They are a bit different but just as good and very versatile especially with the split. The tuners are rock solid and this guitar stays in tune really well. Hardware is top notch. The finish on this guitar is drop dead gorgeous. You could not get it in a Gibson for under $2500 and the environmental restrictions make producing it in the USA really a challenge. This is where Epiphone comes in. There are some minor finish issues, a bit of overspray on the binding, a bit thick with clear coat in some spots. This is minor when you consider what you are getting for $500. The fret work is very decent, better then lower priced Gibsons by far. The nut is cut way too high on mine in places and it would benefit form a good set up. I have heard of some quality issues so I was a bit worried about buying without playing first but no issues here. The same potential issues exist with Gibsons. This is a true Les Paul, solid and fat sounding beautiful to look at and inspiring to play. I can recommend this guitar without hesitation- it is a great guitar and will last a lifetime. Also I would like to mention that the neck is very straight and has no issues, it intonates very well and is a substantial feeling neck but very fast and comfortable. It is a D shape, perhaps a tad more than I would prefer but it is a 60's profile Gibson shape which has just enough mass for good sound transfer while still feeling fast. I could not be happier with this purchase and zZounds had it in my hands in two and a half days. Just get this guitar while you can and read about later! BTW- the Mahogony back and neck are beautiful and the book matched AAA flamed maple top while not perfect, is a home run at this Price. I have the Burgony Burst finish..,classic Gibson looking.

I purchased the bourbon guitar and love it, the reason I am doing this review, is mostly to tell about zZounds service, the guitar speaks for itself. the guitar I ordered came with a cracked neck near the nut. I called zZounds and they sent me a return label, I shipped it back and while it was on the way to them they sent me a replacement . I received it and the entire deal was accomplished in less than a week. Thanks zZounds for great service.

I purchased the dirty lemon finish and it is GORGEOUS! Fit and finish was nearly perfect, with the only issue being the knobs. They are not seated correctly and have a visible "wobble" when turned. Playability is excellent due to great fret work and a surprisingly good factory setup. Pickups are some of the most versatile I've played-like a slightly hotter version of a P.A.F. with coil splitting. Don't be a head stock snob and order this guitar-you won't regret it!

"Great Guitar, But..."

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I have the Bourbon Burst model and it's just gorgeous. Sounds awesome, BUT- the nut on this guitar was cut incredibly poorly! When I first got it I couldn't tune the G or B strings because the nut was not cut all the way through and it would "hang" on the top end of the nut, turn the tuning peg maybe 3/4 of a turn and nothing, then all of a sudden BAM! the string finally slips from the tension and you're either a semitone above or below your intended pitch. Finally did a string change and filed it down myself (Epiphone seems to have some SERIOUS QC issues now. My ES-335 came with a faulty pickup selector switch. I had to replace it myself. Not a lot of fun on a semi-hollow body guitar!).When all is said and done though, this guitar looks, feels, and sounds pretty damn amazing! Is it "as good as a Gibson"? No! And don't expect it to be. Gibsons are hand made, taking almost a week to make each one. This one is made in China at the Epiphone factory. This is still light years ahead of the previous Korean made Les Pauls. The ProBucker pickups are very beefy and articulate, offering great Blues, Classic Rock and heavier sounds. With the bridge pickup in single coil mode it actually gets close to a Tele sound, suitable for Country! Alas, the neck pickup in single coil mode won't really replica that SRV Strat sound, but still sounds good. Sustain is rich due to the mass (i.e. weight) of this thing just like Les wanted (interesting note: Les Paul actually wanted the guitar to be solid maple for added sustain but it was just way too heavy, so eventually he compromised with a mahogany body and maple top.)So, all in all this is an excellent workingman's guitar. A versatile palette of very usable sounds that will work well with almost any genre at a very reasonable price.

This guitar is as good as the 1960 LP Tribute Plus I used to own and gifted to my son. We plugged them both in this past weekend and jammed for awhile and we both had a hard time distinguishing between the Gibson PAF humbuckers on the Trib Plus and the Probucker 2 & 3 humbuckers on the Plustop Pro. Yeah, they are that good and I don't have any reason to be switching them out. The flame maple cap on the Dirty Lemon is a beauty, there are no flaws in the wood and all the hardware is mounted perfectly. The neck, fretboard, headstock are all perfect and the Grover tuners are mounted perfectly, this baby tunes right up and stays tuned. This is the first Epiphone I've ever received that didn't have some fret buzz, a nut that needed filing, the intonation needed dialing in or something that was needed to get it set-up to my liking, but this one had no issues at all, all it wants is to be played. I did give it a little dab of nut sauce, but I do that with all my guitars when they're new and at every string change. Couldn't be happier with the overall quality, awesome sound and easy playability of this Epiphone, WOW! And thanks to zZounds for getting this shipped using 2 day delivery and the 12 month payment plan, that's another WOW!

This guitar was bought just to have as a Less Paul I could use as a practice guitar. It has proven to be worthy of being a work horse in my live stable. I own an actual American made Gibson LP and play weekly in a band that covers everything from Creed to Skynyrd to Hank depending on the venue. I have never owned an Epi but I have to say side by side I just cannot find the $1000 difference. Dirty Lemon is beautiful, sounds awesome through my Vox AC, and it feels tight and responsive. Minor set up out of the box (intonation and a little fret rattle on high e and b) and she was ready. Hopefully Epi will keep brining affordable quality for those who cannot afford to pay a lot of cash for an instrument (THIS IS HOW YOU GROW THE MARKET) Give people an instrument built to perform that they can afford!! The new kids can play video games or Les Pauls give them the LP that makes them forget the games. Epi got this one right from finish to function.

I'm 52 and re-learning guitar. Last played in my early 20s. I never liked my faux Strat that I played in the late eighties. This Les Paul is a gem. I can't put it down. I am thoroughly happy and glad I spent a little more for my second stint at learning. It is truly a beautiful instrument and very inviting and easy to play. I absolutely love the Bourbon Burst finish.I was a little hesitant about an online versus in-store purchase, zZounds did a magnificent job.

This guitar is excellent for people who want the Gibson Les Paul sound, yet are on a budget. This guitar is too good for what I paid for. You will hear negative comments about these Epiphones. But all of the bad comments are just ignorance about guitar set up. Get your guitar set up before you talk trash about such a good instrument. The only problem I found on my guitar is that it is going out of tune because of the nut. It needs a good set up like I said before. That is all, no biggy! Get yours soon! Ignore the ignorance that even I had when I did not know much about the fixable issues of this guitar. SET IT UP! And rock on!

Just received my Limited Edition Traditional Pro Plus and I can't believe the quality and craftsmanship of this guitar. Mine is the bourbon burst and the finish is absolutely flawless. In fact I can't find anything wrong with any aspect of the entire instrument. There is no wobble whatsoever on any of the volume or tone controls, they are 100% concentric. The guitar was set up perfectly right out of the box. String height is spot on, no fret buzz whatsoever. The pro bucker pick ups sound amazing through my Super Champ stack as well as my Blues Deluxe. The workmanship, quality, fit and finish are better than either of my American Standard Strat or Tele which cost twice as much. Hat's off to the Chinese, they have really upped their game. Very happy I didn't drop 15 hundo on a Gibson. I don't see how it could possibly be any better. These pro buckers sound better than the '57 classics that come on the Gibsons. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking at Gibson's to buy this Epiphone before they are gone. This is definitely one of the best guitars in my arsenal, and one that I will never sell or trade. It's just amazing .G. G.Burleson, Texas

I tuned it up and then plugged it in and played around with the electronics and was impressed even further. Great sound. I really like the neck feel when fretting too. Got it about a year ago and let me say it’s worth every penny. I rarely split the neck pickup but use with the bridge split and on 7 using the neck volume for volume. Sounds very clean and has an awesome clarity for rhythm playing. I play with a church group. So I use it once a week for about a 2-21/2 hour practice then again Sunday morning for service. Been doing this from the day it arrived. Never had the first problem. Plays all kinds of genres and styles with either splitting bridge pickup and adjust volume for bright tones clean or working volume to clean up. I also use a blues crab pedal and a mini Ibanez tube screamer pedal. Together this guitar is amazing. Buy it

I purchased this guitar a couple weeks ago with some concerns. I've gone my whole life hearing about quality control issues or just poor workmanship on the part of Epiphone. However, being a beginner, I would be hard pressed to dump $1000+ on a Gibson Les Paul - hence why (reluctantly) I went with the Epiphone. I owned a Fender Squire for about ten years and had literally, nothing but problems with it. I was constantly having issues with internal wiring, the thing wouldn't stay in tune for more than about 20 minutes and (I can't confirm this, nor do I think it was the manufacturer's error) the neck was warped when I bought it brand new. Needless to say, this turned me off of cheap guitars. This Epiphone is affordable but definately not cheap. Epiphone must have really come around in the past few years because this guitar is PERFECT. I've been around guitars for a long time (playing drums in various bands for ~15 years) and can tell that this thing bleeds quality. Pros: -The bourbon burst is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think there is a better finish available. -Everything is tight and smooth. There are no rattles anywhere and all of the hardware is, quite literally, a part of the guitar. The knob are tight but turn easily - no dragging or scratchy sounds. The switches actuate with a hearty "click" as opposed to dragging a wet cloth across sandpaper (yes, the Squire again). The "pearloid" inlays on the fretboard are installed so well they could be mistaken as painted on. -The sound. This thing just sounds evil. Turn that OD up to 11 on your Marshall and listen to it wail. I'm fairly certain someone wil, say "A Gibson just sounds way better" and it probably does, but for two to four times the price. Come on people, it's an intermediate guitar. Not a GLP '59 Reissue. -Stays in tune extremely well compared to my previous experiences with the Squire. -The coil splitting feature is very neat, but... Cons: -...I have no use for coil splitting. I'm sure lots of people do that will buy this guitar but I do not. -It's not a Gibson for near-Gibson pricing. Before you argue this, look up a Gibson Les Paul 60's tribute model - this is a sub-$1000 guitar that is not much more than this Epiphone. Yes, I know that this Epiphone is $500 and that 60's tribute is $900. Drastic difference you say? Look up a GLP '59 Reissue and tell me that $400 is a drastic price differnece. Go ahead. I'll wait. Okay moving on. -I was really looking forward to having the pick guard on this guitar, only to discover that you must drill into the face of this exquisite guitar to install it. Too much commitment for me - I'm not sure why they don't have the same QD system that lots of Gibsons have. Seems like if you want the pick guard, you have to ruin your guitar, poor engineering in my non-engineering background opinion. Overall, if I knew what I now know prior to purchasing this guitar, I still would pull the trigger on it. If I were several years more experienced then I would probably have gone with the Gibson. You can and will not go wrong with this item, it truly is an (affordable) work of art. DAN

Looking for a Les Paul with great features that won't break the bank, then this Epiphone model is it. I purchased the dirty lemon finish from zZounds and wow! The pics on the website don't do it justice. Beautiful aged look. Required a bit of a setup, but thats due to my playing perference. Setup was not bad out of the box. Tone wise, the probuckers do an excellent job. Sounds close, but not exact to Gibson burst buckers. It's got a really thick and creamy sound especially when over driven. Handles distortion pretty well, I can play anything from classic rock, to hard rock and even extreme metal. Very versatile especially with the ability to coil tap the humbuckers. Looking for an affordable Les Paul, don't second guess it. This is a great guitar and with zZounds Play as you Pay feature... you can't go wrong...get it!!

Ok, so I am no where near a musician and wouldn't even consider myself an amateur guitarist. More like I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar 6 months ago and this is the fist upgrade from a basic cheapo starter package. I felt this this particular make and model was a fairly good mid range guitar and would carry me for many, many, many years. The guitar is absolutely beautiful and feels quite solid. I was a bit surprised at the weight of it coming from the el-cheapo one I was using. The neck feels better, the action is hella awesome. As far as sound quality and what not, it sounds good to me, but like I said, I'm not a dedicated musician with years of experience to tell you the differences. My one beef with the guitar is with the tone knobs (hence the lack of quality control). One of the knobs was not seated correctly on the post so when you turn the knob it rides high on one side and lower on the other. It does not ride against the body of the guitar, but for a $500.00 guitar, I would have expected the knobs to be seated firmly and level. Just to be clear: the knob is not loose, just plain ole crooked on the post. It is not a deal breaker for me being as it does not affect the sounds or even the look of the guitar, only when you look down at the knob while playing is it even noticeable. Other than that, I absolutely love the guitar and hopefully will be shredding some classics in the years to come.

Purchased the epi Les Paul standard plustop pro in dirty lemon on 1/05/2020. Received it three days later. Didn't open it for two days so it could warm up to room temperature gradually. Finish is awesome no overruns on finish. Binding is great. Neck and frets are awesome. Playing wise one of the best I've played. Figured I would play it for aonth or two to get it settled in and then give it a full set. On March 30th decided to restring and set up. After cleaning and restring adjusted the strings to spec. When I went to adjust the neck pickup height the pickup tilted away from the neck at about 7 degrees.went ahead and adjusted the bridge to spec. Hooked up the pickups to balance the volume and everything was super dark and muddy. Tried to adjust the pickup differently with no change. Tried several times to adjust them several time and finally contacted zZounds. They told me to contact Epiphone since it was past 45 days. I ask them if they inspected their instruments before shipping and they said no. So I contacted epi and c.s. said take it to a certified service center, I ask him where, they are all shut down. So I am stuck with a guitar that cost $539.00 and it's useless. When weather gets nice I might just have a bone fire. That's all it's good for. Disappointed with zZounds and Epiphone. Never again will I trust these to companies.
