"A very nice Les Paul, for such a low price!"

Firstly, to stabilize the tuning properly of an electric guitar, you must “stretch” the strings, by lifting the guitar by it’s new set of strings. You’ll have to re-tune the guitar after you institute this “old school” method a few times, and even if the tuners are not the best around, the guitar will hold it’s intonation. You should also push the strings along the fretboard with your fingers, to create the standard Blues and Rock tremolo/vibrato style. Let’s face it, this guitar is not “top shelf”, but it serves it’s purpose beautifully! A good all around gigging and practicing axe, and lightweight as well! More importantly, it has great tone, (no matter what the prima donnas’ and guitar snobs suggest). As far as the frets go, I can live with slight sharpness on the edges, and it’s no big deal. It’s great to have a good knock-around guitar, that you can take to gigs, and not have to worry about it being stolen. I’ve bought a number of low budget Epi Pauls over the years, and never was embarrassed playing them on stage. By the way, if you are a good player, you can get away with any cheap guitar as your main axe, or part of your collection! I love it, play it, and recommend it! Get yourself one!!!

"Not That Great"

The Les Paul Express arrived safely, well packed and shipped quickly. It was purchased as a Christmas present for my girlfriend who I felt could make better progress learning to play with the shortened scale and slightly less tension. The guitar looks nice enough. The problem really is with the tuning stability. I changed strings to a higher gauge to assist with this and while it helped the somewhat dullish tone, it did nothing to help this guitar hold tune. I made a couple of minor bridge adjustments that helped, but still-poor intonation and inability to hold tune through even one song. The tuners may be the main culprit here. There is a definite grittiness and binding while turning the keys and then a loose feeling once you stop turning them. Junk. Not expecting much for the money really but adequate tuners would not have been that expensive for the manufacturer. Frets were also sharp and needed filing. So, I will now be spending as much for my tech to change the tuners out and work on the bridge to get this thing playable. I'm buying the girl;friend a better guitar and this one will hang on the wall as a reminder that you get what you pay for.

"Epiphone Express Les Paul 'blemished'"

ok, let me say the buying experience was fantastic! what I bought, not so much. I bought a 'blemished' item. I thought I would be cosmetic, but the input jack was shorting and it wouldn't stay in tune, the neck slightly bowed,, more wrong than I thought would be. however, I only paid $89! and the basic bones were good, so some work later and its my favorite guitar, I have slight arthritis so I couldn't get my hands around the fat Gibson necks, this feels like a dream. I will buy from zZounds and Epiphone again!
